So glad to hear they are still searching. Poor Venus. Her poor family.
Such a sad sad ending to a beautiful, young mother's life.

Still praying for Venus and her family.
I hope she is found soon.

DS will be sentenced this Monday IIRC.

Doug Stewart says he is innocent in murder of Venus Stewart; 'I did not commit these crimes,' he says

CENTREVILLE — As Venus Stewart's family pleaded with Doug Stewart to reveal where he placed her body, Doug Stewart declared his innocence Monday.

“All I have to say is I'm innocent. I did not do these crimes,” said Stewart while dressed in a green inmate uniform at his sentence hearing in St. Joseph County Circuit Court. "I ask police to continue looking for my wife. If not for me, my children need to know what happened to their mother."

Circuit Judge Paul Stutesman sentenced him to a mandatory term of life in the prison without parole following Stewart's conviction last month.

“A real man is supposed to protect his wife and kids. You victimized your child, then murdered your wife.”
That is how Dustin Jasper of Sturgis described Douglas Stewart minutes before Stewart was sentenced to life in prison without parole
for the murder of Venus Stewart, Jasper’s sister.
Jasper spoke on behalf of family members in the courtroom of St. Joseph County Circuit Judge Paul Stutesman.
Jasper read words written by his mother, Therese McComb: “Don’t you miss her? Don’t you realize how much Brook and Rachel need
their mother? This just shows how much you didn’t love them and saw them as pawns to hunt Venus. You’re hurting Mom by not
telling where she is at to have a proper burial.”

Monday’s hearing lasted less than 25 minutes. Stewart had a chance to tell the court the location of his estranged wife’s body.
Instead, he said, “I’m innocent of these crimes. I hope you continue to look for her, if not for me but for the children, so they know
what happened to their mother.”

Ole Doug is trying to pull an OJ!
I did not do it!
Please look for the real killer.

And he is adding
Please find my wife for my children's sake!

Female remains found an hour from Venus's parents' house:

Seems like the JD is probably older than Venus... and I'd be surprised if Doug just left her on top of the ground like this... but maybe...

Yeah it doesn't make sense to me that Doug would go all the way up to Kalamazoo to leave her body when he had to go back down south of Colon to get to I-80 and go back to Virginia. His parents house is north of Colon but not that far north relatively.

Here is another article on the remains that says they are a female between 35 and 50. It also talks about other missing women in the area... Mary Lands, Heather Cousino and Tammie Briley.

Praying for the family of this victim, whoever she is.

Police say skeletal remains do not belong to Tammie Briley, Mary Lands or Venus Stewart

COMSTOCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – Police are continuing their efforts to identify the skeletal remains of a woman found in Comstock Township more than a month ago.

While a positive identification of the remains has not been made, police do say that the remains are not those of three missing West Michigan women. Police say the remains are not those of Tammie Briley, Mary Lands or Venus Stewart.

WOW! I didn't see this coming! But 1 year??? GMAB
It is my opinion, Venus would still be alive if this "man" had not helped DS.
He deserves MUCH more than a year.
But, due to the plea deal, looks like that is all he may wind up getting.

Ricky Spencer, accomplice in slaying, abduction of Venus Stewart, pleads no contest to felony manslaughter charge

CENTREVILLE — Doug Stewart's co-conspirator in the abduction and slaying of his estranged wife pleaded no contest Thursday to a felony manslaughter charge.

Under terms of a plea agreement, St. Joseph County Prosecutor John McDonough is recommending that Spencer serve no more than one year in the St. Joseph County Jail. Spencer, who is free on bond, is scheduled to be sentenced by Stutesman on July 22.

Only one year?? That just doesn't seem right for someone involved in PREMEDITATED murder. If only they had found Venus' body. Then this guy would have served a more appropriate sentence.

Be at peace, Venus.

I think his testimony was so crucial to the case that they gave him what he wanted in his plea deal.

1 year totally sucks!
But without his testimony, I don't think DS would have been convicted.

I think of Venus and her family often.
Still praying she is found soon and given the proper burial she deserves.

Venus Stewart update: Latest tip in search for body turns up 'nothing'

FULTON -- The latest tip in the quest to find Venus Stewart's body has yielded nothing, Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Pali Matyas said today.

A hunter using the Fulton State Game Area called authorities Saturday night after spotting a tarp.

After an initial search Saturday night, two sheriff's deputies and a cadaver dog returned to the site today. A detective from the Michigan State Police's White Pigeon post was also on the scene today.

"We're of the opinion that this is nothing," Matyas said after today's search turned up no solid clues.

Search of Fulton State Game Area produces no sign of Venus Stewart
Published: Sunday, July 10, 2011, 7:15 PM

FULTON — A hunter checking pictures on his trail camera late Saturday in the Fulton State Game Area alerted authorities after noticing what looked like a burial site.

Following up on the tip — and the potential it might be the burial site of Venus Stewart, who is presumed to have been killed by her estranged husband — a five-person team from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Office, a detective from the Michigan State Police post in White Pigeon and a cadaver dog searched the area Sunday morning. The search failed to yield anything related to the Stewart case.
