Willmar couple still seek closure in son's 2002 disappearance (from 2015)
http://www.wctrib.com/news/local/3671731-willmar-couple-still-seek-closure-sons-2002-disappearance

Daniel was last seen leaving a party in New London during the early morning hours of Aug. 1, 2002, when he was 18 years old. He would be 30 years old today.

Authorities say they have followed up on hundreds of leads, conducted land and air searches and used lie detector tests to interview those who knew Daniel. Kandiyohi County sheriff’s deputies have even searched the area with a psychic, yet Daniel’s disappearance still remains a mystery.

A number of rumors have circulated over the years regarding Daniel’s disappearance. Russ and Lidia do not know what happened to their son, but they speculate he was the victim of foul play.

Where is Daniel Newville? (from 2006)

Russell said Daniel called him on Aug. 1, 2002, and asked him to put his fishing pole out by the garage. Daniel was supposed to pick up the pole later that day or the next day. However, after three days of not hearing from his son, Russell grew concerned and started asking questions.

"I did what came natural," Russell said. "Went banging on lots of doors and talking to lots of people."

Russell maintains that four people know what happened to his son, "but they lie to police and get away with it." Russell said he has tried to keep his son's disappearance in the limelight in hopes that public scrutiny will eventually shed new light on the case.

Details of Disappearance
Newville had been jailed for probation violation, and was released on July 31, 2002. Afterwards he went to a party at the end of a dead-end street in New London, Minnesota. It's possible there was drug use at the party.

He was last seen leaving the party during the early morning hours of August 1. He decided to go to another residence about a mile or two away. He was offered a ride there, but refused. He never arrived at the other address and has never been heard from again.

Although his father says he informed the police about his son's disappearance within ten days, no missing persons report was filed for a month and a half. His parents believe he met with foul play. They stated he sometimes got into trouble, but didn't instigate it; instead, he hung around the wrong people. His case remains unsolved.

Daniel "Danny" Newville went missing in the summer of 2002 from New London, Minn.

Russell Newville consistently maintains he went to the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office to report his son missing roughly one week after he was last heard from.

That date has been a point of contention between him and the Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office officials, who claim they did not receive notice of Newville’s disappearance until an anonymous tip came in September 2002 that Newville had been killed and buried on his grandfather’s property in a rural area of the county.
