This thread is to discuss the case of George Floyd. It is not a thread to discuss racism in general.

Unless your post relates to this case specifically, it is off topic and will be removed.

ADMIN NOTE:

Please stay on topic by discussing the trial without introducing the peripheral matters of riots and protests, BLM, all the extraneous chatter about racial inequities and other social justice issues.

We acknowledge, we understand how critical this trial is in relation to those issues, but we need to stay focused on this case and the trial itself. Yes there is overlap with those important issues, but the thread is specifically dedicated to discussing the George Floyd case and the Derek Chauvin trial and not all those other matters.

If members wish to generally speculate on how such issues may have influenced either the victim or the accused, that's fine, but please don't bring in specifics related to all those other matters and derail the thread with social justice issues that will not be resolved in this discussion.

Thanks !!

ADMIN NOTE:

To say simply that GF possibly had fear as a black man was left as reasonable speculation that doesn't warrant dissecting it any further. IF GF had that fear, surely we can all understand where it may have originated.

Quite a few posts had to be removed due to general back and forth bickering. There is no way to edit that many posts and be able to retain context so a lot of responses got removed in the process.

ADMIN NOTE:

Members have been previously advised not to trash the witnesses. They are not there for our enjoyment or entertainment and there is no need to publicly disparage them or belittle them.

Keep it classy folks !!

Thank you.

Can’t blame it on drugs when he never administered narcan, nor placed him on his side, nor regularly reassessed GF’s condition. Even if it was the drugs, DC still neglected to administer any aid as he was trained to do. Whether it was the knee or the drugs, DC still failed to even attempt to save GF’s life, he actually showed reckless behaviour by refusing to even acknowledge GF’s obviously critical condition.

DC was someone supposed to help in a crisis, if GF was overdosing then he should have been able to rely on DC to help him atleast until EMS arrived. DC played dumb but knew exactly what he was doing by not even agreeing to suggestions they roll him over.

I wonder what new testimony today will bring and how many times nelson uses a gun battle as a dramatic example

Chauvin’s defense lawyers are suggesting that drugs ― and not the 9 minutes and 29 seconds that Chauvin pressed his knee against Floyd’s neck ― caused Floyd’s death in May 2020.

“He says, ‘Attorney Crump, you should tell them that if Derek Chauvin feels so confident in that, he should volunteer during his case to get down on the floor in that courtroom and let somebody come and put their knee on his neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds and be able to see if he can survive,’” Crump remembered Clooney writing to him.

“The experts will opine during this case that the average human being can go without oxygen from 30 seconds to 90 seconds — where George Floyd went without oxygen for over 429 seconds, and that’s why it was intentional what this officer did,” Crump added.

Additionally, what separates this case from others is this wasn't a split second decision. Unlike a fatal police shooting - DC had 9 minutes to assess his decision to keep his knee on place, even while a crowd begged him to show mercy.

Yes, there was plenty of time. He was aggressive almost as soon as he arrived at the scene. I'm still wondering if he recognized Floyd from working at the club.

Even afterwards he showed no emotion or concern as Williams was telling him, "you just killed that guy." I know police officers who suffer from PTSD after killing a suspect even when deadly force was authorized. Yet Chauvin didn't seem to have a reaction, even at the hospital after Floyd was pronounced dead.

back to work, but before I go.....

Court TV is replaying the information regarding the ate too/ain't do testimony.

Dr. Martin Tobin is called to the stand - Blackwell up for the prosecution for this witness. Specialist in Chicago for pulmonary medicine and critical care. (Wish they had Dr Sehult or Dr. Hansen from MedCram :D)

Court TV is saying the ME will be called tomorrow.

Trial just started with a medical witness, pulmonologist and critical care specialty.

The state has called its 31st witness of the Derek Chauvin trial: Dr. Martin Tobin, a physician from Chicago with Hines VA Hospital and Loyola University. His testimony will be important for the state to establish the argument that Chauvin's restraint of Floyd led to his death.
