Grafft was the right guy for this job. The current sheriff has taken this case in the wrong direction.

Charlie Grafft's pager went off just as he was sitting down to watch the 10 o'clock news. A boy had been abducted. The crime scene was a mere four miles from the Stearns County Sheriff's house. When Grafft arrived, the sheriff was struck by the discarded bikes and the scooter laying in the ditch.

"I looked everything over and said, 'Oh boy, this is going to be a job,'" said Grafft.

Grafft and his deputies searched with flashlights for three hours and only found a faint tire print.

By 10 P.M. police were already combing the site, and Stearns County Sheriff Charlie Grafft had called in a state police helicopter to join the town's volunteer fire department in the search. By midnight the FBI was on the case. Meanwhile, Patty was calling her neighbors, and Jerry was contacting his fellow members of the pacifist Baha'i faith, who started a telephone prayer tree. After hearing the news, Iverson arrived at the Wetterling house at 1:30 A.M. and just after dawn started phoning the local radio and TV stations. "We wanted people to know right away in the morning," Patty says, "so they could be looking for Jacob on their way to work." By 11 A.M., reporters were arriving on the scene en masse, and the abduction was blossoming into a full-scale media event.

Just some notes on the current timeline we're using. According to news accounts Grafft was up in the air in a helicopter by 10:30 - possibly 10:45. He arrived on scene at the abduction after being paged, and he was paged just as 10 pm news was about to start. So allowing him 10 minutes to get to abduction scene, (he only lived 4 miles away, and there wouldn’t be much traffic that late on Sunday night) he would have looked at bikes at abduction scene for maybe 5 minutes? So 10:10 - 10:15. Then he drove to Wetterlings house, talked to excited boys, that would take a little while. Wetterlings drive was 20 minutes according to ELOC, not as long as shown in the timeline. I’d agree with that having driven it. Merle called Patty and Jerry after hanging up with 911 at 9:40. So they would have been arriving around 10:05-10:10. Wetterlings went straight to the house with the escort and did not stop at scene. Grafft would have probably arrived at house around the same time. I’m sure he spent some time discussing with them also. DR’s call to 911 is not until 11:23 when he saw lights by his woodpile. In above link it says Grafft and deputies searched for 3 hours with flashlights. If Kevin was at the crime scene before LE, or Grafft, then he must have been there before 10 pm. (ALL JMO, feel free to add or make changes.)

Prior to the 2010 dig at DR's place, the sheriff asked the FBI for a consultation on what to do. They suggested a more in-depth search of the property. They made it clear this advice was not based on new evidence, it was just a general expedition to hopefully discover new clues. Maybe they did. At some point fairly soon the perpetrator is going to be dead if he's not already....DR himself is now just about at retirement age. I say the cops may as well open up all the information and put it out there - but I suspect quite a bit of investigative errors will be exposed when that happens.

My feeling is that while the sheriff is still officially running this investigation, in reality as always this department is in above its head and doesn't have a true direction or ongoing capability of its own to effectively resolve this case.

I can appreciate educated insight, and not rampant speculation. BTW, he was my teacher in 7th and 8th grade. I haven't seen him since so get your facts straight.
I think we can all appreciate that it is difficult when you are friends with a poi.

The BCA, the FBI, and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children all assisted with this investigation. Nationally recognized search and rescue canine handlers also helped with the search.

Four court orders signed by Stearns County District Judge Vicki Landwehr authorized the search warrants to be sealed and retained by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. The orders said public release of the documents could hamper the ongoing investigation into Jacob's disappearance.

technology that has helped solve cold cases in recent years.

Sgt. Anita Muldoon leads the cold case unit at the St. Paul Police Department. She says the DNA lab at the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has new technology called touch DNA that can help identify skeletal remains.

"When DNA profiling first began -- oh, you know, 20 years ago I think they started using it -- they needed a large amount of evidence or blood or some sort of bodily fluid to test, to obtain a profile from a person," Muldoon said. "And now they just need one skin cell."

Muldoon says it's possible that's what investigators may be searching for in the Wetterling case, although she's not involved in the case.

Sanner says the years that have passed since 11-year-old Jacob was abducted in St. Joseph have in no way diminished the resolve of law enforcement officers at the county, state, and federal level “to provide the answers everyone has waited far too long to hear.”

Law enforcement officers have worked closely with Jacob’s parents, Patty and Jerry Wetterling, over the years – even getting some of the credit for saving their marriage.

I wish you luck in submitting the proposal. I look forward to having a non-DR related discussion.

That is a very interesting proposition.....would you be willing to start the non-DR related discussion?

Back to paynesville? Back to the monks? Back to the case suspects (MF, LK, VS, DA, TG), Back to human trafficking, hollinger, invisible unaccounted for tire tracks? DR or Kevin?

Yes. Let's see where it leads.

So who wants to look through the threads and see what has been discussed and what info was brought forward? There is quite sone detail in Eloc's book.

Hollinger is interesting. It would be interesting to contact his daughter and see what she says re her interview with LE.It would be interesting to contact LK 's relatives and see what they have to say.

Maybe someone could visit with DAH. Are they allowed visitors?

All good ideas.

DR cleared Kevin and is 100 percent convinced we should be trying to find the afternoon car. The tan monte carlo. Whats funny about that is if that's the abductor, he drives all the way into the building site in the afternoon- reveals himself, his car, and leaves his tire tracks. He then returns during the night and sees the three boys and abducts Jacob. Mask, gun, and all. But this time he doesn't have the tan monte carlo, he is on foot and walks Jacob to his house somewhere in St Joe. More attention should be focused on getting the community to remember who may have owned a tan monte carlo.

RBBM So the POI (who contaminated the crime scene) clears an (until much later) undocumented intruder who contaminates the crime scene? Really?

Key rule here... A perp in many cases will himself/herself or using an associate(s), attempt to insert themselves into the search and investigation to keep tabs on what LE knows so they can remove or contaminate evidence or influence the investigation.

No ideas?

Someone could find out from Joy who Kevin is. He was on TV. I did not see him

This is from the thread about Jared Fogle, the Subway guy who has been arrested and is pleading guilty to *advertiser censored* and sex with minors.

I worked as a nurse at the FL Civil Committment Center a few years back on assignment. That is a place where those convicted of sexual crimes may be forced to go after completing their sentences. It isn't a mental health place, it's a prison, and for good reason. No amount of jail or therapy changes what these guys are attracted to when it comes to pedophiles. We had one 'resident as they were referred to' come back after release a week later begging to be let back in because he knew he would reoffend. If you didn't know any better, most of the men in there for sexual abuse of minors seemed like great guys until you read their charts. I'm talking super nice, seemingly normal men. I'm just referring to the experience with the pedophile convicts. The therapy staff used all kinds of tools to try to establish the chance of reoffending before release, including a sort of penis polygraph. It is my belief and opinion, that the desire will always be there for these men, but whether they act on it is a chance I wouldn't want to gamble on. I think one judge and two medical professionals have to sign off on not being a threat before they can be released. It's basically prison time indefinitely after you complete your given sentence. It's been a few years, but maybe it's changed.

How many witnesses does Feeney have for that night?

And where do the kids live that he dropped off.

How often had he been in the neighborhood. Did he drop these kids often?

How tall is he? Does he fit Jared's abuser at all?
