These cases with little details are so frustrating. She was "supposed" to move back to Georgia. Who says? Who did she mention that to, assuming she really did? Is there a source of where this claim originated as there appears to be no interviews of anyone affiliated with her. Was it family? A friend? Boyfriend? Coworker from the railroad? What brought her to KC if she was from Georgia? Her job? Did she have family in KC? Who was she living with? Was she a transient? And who filed the missing persons report?

When she allegedly left, did she drive? Did she hitchhike? She didn't have a single person who could take her to a bus station? As it was noted she worked for the railroad, was there a route via train she would have tried to take? How long did she work for the railroad? Why was she leaving? Her place of employment couldn't provide these details? Too many questions and no investigation to back it up.

The Atlanta Constitution from Atlanta, Georgia - Newspapers.com - her mother died in 1966 when she was about 12.

Springfield Leader and Press from Springfield, Missouri - Newspapers.com - in 1977, she was arrested for stealing a coat.

Mexico Ledger from Mexico, Missouri - Newspapers.com - there's a few articles about Cathy Ann Smith divorcing Rodger Dale Smith in 1972. She would have been 18 at the time, quite young to divorce but this is the 70s. Rodger himself was 20, so this makes sense. A daughter named Amy Beth was born in 1970 to them.
I'm not 100% sure this is her since it seems like Smith is her family name. Unless they both happened to have the last name Smith.

There are a few articles about her playing sports in High School in Georgia
