Identified! MO - Columbia, McKnight Tire, UnkSex/Race Infant, UP59447, in backpack hidden in old tire, Aug'19

-Baby less than 1 year old

-Race and Gender could not be identified nor a cause of death after an Autopsy on Friday (Aug 16)

-Found near edge of parking lot by an employee at McKnight Tire on the 1900 block of Providence Rd. in North Columbia, Missouri on Thursday (Aug 15, 2019)

-Police did not say how long the baby had been there or if there was any indication of foul play, but are following at least 5 leads.

An autopsy has yielded no additional clues into the death of an infant whose remains were discovered Thursday near a Columbia tire retailer, Columbia Police Department Assistant Chief Jeremiah Hunter said Friday.

“There was an autopsy performed this morning we were hopeful would give us some more answers,” Hunter said at a press conference the police station. “We are still not able to determine the race or gender due to the fact the child was found in such a state of decomposition.”

Detectives will now consult with a forensic anthropologist to see if questions about the child such as race, gender and more specific age, can be determined, as well as how long the child had been there.

“Right now we are contacting a specialist that can come in and help us to answer some of those questions,” Hunter said.

A couple hours east of this location, I-55 links Chicago to the entire south.
A couple hours west, I-35 starts in Texas & continues into Minnesota.

This baby could be local, could be from anywhere in the US.

I just looked up and linked the missing kids under a year in Missouri and all bordering states as I figured starting with the closest locations, then branching out was a good start. It was somewhat tedious just to look up the cases for 8 states so if anyone else wants to look up more, feel free.
I believe Namus had 196 listed missing babies for the US, though many of those will be 1 year to 1 year 11 months since the search option is "< or =" vs just a < option when inputting the age of 1.

Wonder how old the backpack is ? I'm guessing it would be more recent for a backpack to sit undisturbed .

I suppose that would depend on which type of tire the backpack was hidden inside, how organized the tires are and how often employees/customers sift through them. But I agree, I don't think that backpack has been sitting in a tire for years and years. Possible but probably unlikely?

When I brought up the Google Street view for McKnight Tire, it automatically puts you at the front doors of the store. If you scroll to the right, it's the edge of the parking lot and you can see tires there. (it may look very different today as this was Google Street view) but there were some car and truck tires propped upright against a semi trailer and further to the right of that were a bunch of very huge tires that are stacked 2-5 on top of one another, probably at least 15+ stacks and appear to be mostly (all?) used tires.
I wonder how often employees go through those? I'm guessing the giant ones don't get moved around often due to their size and are mostly viewed from the side vs looking down inside the stacks when an employee/customer is looking for a specific size.

Or are those tires to be discarded/recycled vs re-sold and they have a regularly scheduled timeframe to be picked up? If so, when was the last pickup I wonder?

I couldn’t find a namus report but Amiah Robertson from Indianapolis, IN. She was 8 months when she was reported missing and hadn’t been seen for a week previous before she was actually reported missing. 1-70 runs through Indy. It’s a stretch, but a possibility I guess.

Does anyone else find it strange that there has been absolute silence for a week? More than a week at that. No LE updates, nothing on Facebook, nothing on twitter. No more asking the public for help. Makes me wonder why? I don’t want this child swept under the rug like so many others.
