everybody hum the barny fife song together!

um... they checked the rso's with a computer? really? Please let this be misreporting.

no amber alert because they think there is no foul play? yet they said she is not a runaway and was scared of the woods. Okay. Please pass the motrin.

OMG...I seriously hope that is just bad reporting. For crying out loud...what can they see on a computer?! Get off your arses and go visit these guys!!! :banghead:

What I want to know is why they have had the time to publish the info about the phone probably being in the woods, but yet we haven't heard about an extensive search at that location taking place??

That info should have led them there, immediately.

Good lord. Somebody in MO: DO SOMETHING!!!

I'm quite impressed with the Clay County Sheriff. Need more like him. Stat.

:praying:

I'm afraid to log on to WS at this point......every day.........new kids are missing! The little boy in Colorado was found and I am hoping that will be the case here!

So are they thinking this could be a family abduction? Well maybe not MOST LE would order an Amber Alert for that also. wonder what they are thinking?
Just because her phone has pinged in the woods does not mean se ran off in the woods at night. Some could've snatched her and threw the phone in the woods to keep from being found.

What would it hurt to put out an Amber Alert? Can you really put a price on a child's life?

If its not foul play then what happened?

1.) Runaway-- Literally could only run away, can't drive, no ID on her, 9 YEARS OLD, how far is she going to get on foot considering she's afraid of woods and dark according to family and LE?

2.) Accident victim-- Could be a possibility since she was walking along a road at night by herself, no reflective clothes on. A hit and run situation could have happened...however, the child is still missing and hasn't been found in any ground searches.

3.) Stranger abduction-- plausible, considering the some of her wonderful RSO neighbors...and those are only the ones that have gotten caught in the past.

4.) Family abduction-- Could indicate why she's being considered endangered missing person? However, even family abductions are usually give an Amber Alert, we just had one in my town the other for a non-custodial parent who had not returned with a child by pre-set time of meeting!

5.) Balloon boy hoax--I doubt she's hiding in the attic.

Thank goodness she had a cell phone that could be pinged.

Praying for good news. Come home Elizabeth!

Slightly off topic, though relevant I believe. Recently, in Ontario, Canada, a young 8 year old went missing walking home from school and LE did not issue an amber alert, unfortunately it ended tragically for the 8 year old, though the good news out of that tragedy, is LE and the government have taken a good hard look at the way amber alerts are issued in Ontario, and because of this tragedy, they are changing the way amber alerts are issued. Hopefully for Elizabeth, it doesn't end in tragedy and the amber alert gets changed in this area. Come home safe Elizabeth!!

thank you for that. I think that the local government needs to take a good hard long look at children walking home from school. I understand buses and such are costly but nothing is worth more than a child's life.

UPDATE: Thursday 9:35 am:

The Cole County Sheriff tells reporters they could use more volunteers in the search for a missing girl.

During a 9am press conference Monday Sheriff Greg White said anyone interested in helping search for Elizabeth Olten should come to the St. Martins' VFW or call the sheriff's department at 573-634-9160.

White says the rain is making for a difficult search and that they are currently using search dogs and are considering using a helicopter.

White told reporters that Olten is not a runaway and that an Amber Alert could be issued later today.

Authorities are currently contacting registered sex offenders in the surrounding areas.

Do we have any members who are locals? LE is asking for more volunteers! We need a posse in Missouri!!!

Come on. This is no family abduction. Family wouldn't throw her phone deep in the woods, they would simply take it from her and and turn it off.

Sheesh, this is not rocket science. They shouldn't be letting all this time go by without getting that beautiful girl's face out there!!!

How scary is this world that a 9-year-old girl needs an escort to walk 4 houses away to a friend's? 4 HOUSES!!!

this is crazy. Issue an Ambert Alert already.

Does every county have an action plan in place and ready to go when a child is reported missing?

GAH!!!

CONSIDERING using a helicopter???

What the frick is the holdup with the amber alert? How hard is it to push that button I want to know?

At this rate she'll be found (one way or another) before the AA comes out.

thank you for that. I think that the local government needs to take a good hard long look at children walking home from school. I understand buses and such are costly but nothing is worth more than a child's life.

unfortunately, not all kids riding school buses are necessarily safe either due to child on child violence these days, in the teen yrs especially - but you are right there has to be something that can be done and for sure 7 yr olds shouldn't be walking 2 miles unaccompanied.

I sincerely hope the parent that sent her home before contacting her mother is out there mucking through the rain helping search for her. :(

Her phone pinged in the woods? Oh man.......

FWIW, they have dogs specifically for sniffing out cell phones. I've only known them to be used in a prison situtation tho.
