Greene County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Tommy Henderson said Tuesday that officials are continuing to follow up on leads, but have not had any breaks in the case.

Henderson said those tips have led officials from Benndale to a casino in Philadelphia, Miss. and many places in between. Search teams also conducted searches of roughly 100 acres of wooded areas near his residence. Those searches involved the use of aerial drones with thermal imaging capability as well as teams conducting grid searches on foot.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is also assisting and has issued an Endangered/Missing Child Alert for Moody. Anyone with information regarding Moody, should contact the Greene County Sherriff’s office at (601)394-2341.

GREENE COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) - Law enforcement in Greene County is asking for the public’s help in locating a teenager who has been reported missing.

According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, 16-year-old Cortlen Jhase Moody was last seen at his home at Willams Drive in Leakesville Friday morning.

Investigators said Moody’s grandmother, who he’s been living with, told them that she noticed he was not home around 8:30 a.m. She said he was in his room earlier around 5:30 a.m.

Moody reportedly stands at 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs 135 pounds. The sheriff’s department said he was last seen wearing a blue basketball shirt with matching shorts.

GCSO was told by Moody’s grandmother that he could have possibly run off to the McClain area where she has a daughter who lives there, but it was later determined that he was not there.

If anyone has information on Moody’s whereabouts, contact the Greene County Sheriff’s Office at (601) 394-2342.

Local officials confirmed Friday afternoon that they are near certain the skeletal remains found in Leakesville Thursday morning are those of a local teenager who had been missing for nearly two months.

Local and state authorities were still on the scene in Leakesville Friday afternoon. Officials are still reportedly awaiting results from DNA testing, but Sheriff Stanley McLeod told the Herald shortly after noon Friday that he is extremely confident the remains are those of 17-year-old Cortlen Jhase Landyn Moody of Leakesville, who has been missing since Friday, Aug. 4. Local search teams found the remains in a small pond while conducting a search of an area located across Miss. 57, roughly a mile from Moody’s residence on Williams Drive, where he was last seen before going missing.

GREENE COUNTY, Miss. (WLOX) - Greene County Sheriff Stanley McLeod says he’s confident the remains found just outside of Leakesville are those of a teenager who has been missing since August. And the sheriff says he believes Cortlen Moody’s death was a tragic accident.

A search party discovered the remains Thursday near a pond in dense woods off Highway 57 just outside the city limits. The area is about a mile from Moody’s home.

The sheriff said investigators found a cap with Moody’s name in it, his sandals, and other clothing near the pond.

Over the last few days, officials drained the pond to collect all of the remains they could. Investigators say the DNA testing will provide final confirmation that they belong to Moody.
