Mississippi Bureau of Investigation agents are asking for the public's help to identity a child whose remains were found in 2014.

On January 8, 2014, the remains of the young boy were found in Sharkey County, Mississippi, according to Capt. Johnny Poulos. The child was found on the east side of the county. He was 5 to 7 years old at the time of death.

A NCMEC Forensic Artist created two images depicting what the child may have looked like in 2014. The images can be seen above.

The case was initially investigated by the Sharkey County Sheriff’s Department and has now been turned over to MBI.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation/Mississippi Highway Patrol at 601-987-1530 or the Mississippi Crime Stoppers at 888-8CRIMES.

Hey, RookieInvestigator. Did you ever hear back on the submission of Diego? There are no comparisons shown on thismUID's NamUs profile. Should he be re-submitted?

ETA - Sorry, I just looked at the date and realized the submission was more recent than I thought. Still, any updates? :D And, good eye!

A child! It looks like LE hasn’t even tried to ID him. Has anyone reached out to MBI to see if there is any more info like ethnicity and PMI? Those 2 things alone would really narrow down the search criteria.

IMO, the NCMEC reconstruction looks like he’s Hispanic or Mixed Race. Notice the different hair types done in the renderings. Maybe mixed Hispanic/Black.

LE only found his cranium...It's possible animals may have moved it...His remaining skeleton could be in the general area...

If they enter his DNA into GEDmatch they can find out his possible ethnicity and predicted eye color...

MBI reopened the case and sent the information to area news stations...The TV stations posted his info in online articles....There is even an article in Memphis, TN...

Hi everyone, we have some updates on this case:

1. Isotope analysis reveals he was born between 2000 and 2004, most likely, and that he likely died sometime between 2007 and 2012.
2. Preliminary genetic analysis indicates the young boy was African American.

NCMEC is working to update their description and facial reconstructions. You can also read about the case at DNASolves: Who is Sharkey County John Doe (2014)?.

We will keep everyone posted as we learn more but the most valuable thing folks can do is to contribute their data if they have tested with a consumer DNA testing company. Folks from the area or with relatives in the area might be a distant match to this child. If you want to help, you can do that here: https://dnasolves.com/user/register/.

Non-family abduction is one theory in the circumstances surrounding Adji's 2009 disappearance. He was 6YO when he disappeared. I'm off to read through Adji's WS thread to see if there are any clues that might help rule him out as a PM.

ETA - Accord to posts on Adji's thread there were 18 or 19 RSOs in the area, 2 lived on the same street as Adji. I wonder if any of them had ties to MS or did cross-country traveling for work or pleasure?

Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office has teamed with Othram, a DNA testing company and NCMEC to determine if advanced DNA testing might help reveal more about the young boy’s identity.

In January 2021, preliminary DNA test results from Othram now indicate that the young boy was African American and that he likely has relatives from Sharkey County, Mississippi, or the surrounding areas. NCMEC additionally coordinated carbon dating through the University of Arizona on the skeletal remains which suggests the young boy was born between 2000-2004 and likely died between 2007-2012.
