Cooper remembered as a fast friend

I thought I'd post this article too.........it seems to reveal so much about her personality:

From the link:

"The ease with which she bonded and made friends was amazing," said Brett Adam, Jessica's husband.

Even children flocked to her. She'd lead gaggles through the neighborhood on a hunt for frogs, even though the creatures made her squirm.

Family Expected Home on Sunday

The family of Nancy Cooper, an Edmonton woman who was murdered in North Carolina last week, is expected to return home Sunday night with their two young granddaughters.

Nancy Cooper's parents, Garry and Donna Rentz were granted temporary custody of her two daughters - Bella, four, and Katie, two - after they argued to a U.S. judge the children's father - Brad Cooper - wasn't a fit parent.

The Rentz' are expected to bring their grandchildren back to Edmonton.

The congregation at their church, the Grace Lutheran Church, is preparing for their return.

"Cary, N.C. — Superior Court Judge Donald Stephens has sealed search warrants related to the homicide of a Cary woman reported missing more than a week ago.

The search warrants for Nancy Cooper's home, vehicle and forensic evidence from her husband, Brad Cooper, have been sealed for 30 days and could be released Aug. 16."

On Wednesday a memorial will be held for Nancy Cooper at Grace Lutheran Church at 99 Avenue and 114 Street at 1 p.m

Brad Cooper's lawyer, Seth Blum, told reporters in Cary, North Carolina on Monday that his client will not be attending his wife's funeral in Canada.

"He doesn't want to distract from Nancy's memory," said Blum. "He wants the focus to be on her, not him. He plans a private service here with friends."

Life, death and the glare of the media

By ANDREW HANON

Unless you've gone through it yourself, the agony Nancy Cooper's family is enduring these days is unimaginable.

But that isn't stopping media across North America from doing their best to help you feel their pain.

Cooper, who grew up in Edmonton but moved to Cary, N.C., an affluent suburb of Raleigh, in her mid-20s, was found floating in a pond last week after an intensive search. Police said she had been murdered.

But when a killing happens in a middle-class suburb to a successful, well-adjusted victim, it strikes most people to their very core. This wasn't supposed to happen. The victim is one of us.

More on 911 calls:

"She was supposed to be at my house at eight and just because of the situation with the divorce, I'm just wondering – I don't know what I should do," the caller says.

The caller tells dispatchers that Nancy Cooper's husband, Brad Cooper, told her his wife went out early for a run – he believed with her friend, the caller says -- but the caller says it was "weird" that Cooper had not returned.

"Because of the situation of the divorce...I don't know what to do," said the caller. "There's been a lot of tension...so I wouldn't be surprised."

Brad Cooper's attorneys, Seth Blum and Howard Kurtz, criticized Cary police for releasing the calls, characterizing the action as a leak that appears "calculated to do nothing more than inflame already raw emotions."

"Selectively releasing prejudicial information in this fashion is reckless, misleading and just plain wrong," they said in a written statement.

Town of Cary spokeswoman Susan Moran said not doing so would have been in violation of the North Carolina Public Records law and that portions of the call required to be redacted were so.

"We did not want to file a motion or make any requests that it be sealed," Wake County District Attorney Colon Willoughby said. "We didn't think it was critical to the investigation, and therefore, we did not see any reason to try to suppress it. So we've not taken any action."

EDMONTON - Six hours after Nancy Cooper was last seen by her husband, a worried friend called 911 to report the woman missing, saying the former Edmontonian was in the middle of a divorce that was creating "tension" for the couple.

"The fact that her car is still at home and her cellphone is there is a little weird," Cooper's friend Jessica Adam told the dispatcher on July 12. "That does not make sense."

Cooper's husband, Brad, had told her six hours earlier that she hadn't returned from an early-morning jog with a friend he didn't know, she said.

A judge awarded Nancy Cooper's family, which lives in Canada, temporary custody of the children until a hearing on the matter, scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday.

Kurtz said in an interview that aired Tuesday on Canadian Broadcasting Company radio that his client did not consent to the order.

"Brad loves his children. He is a very, very good father. And he is going to ask the court to return them to his care," Kurtz said.

EDMONTON - About 400 people filled Grace Lutheran Church in Edmonton this afternoon to pay their respects at a memorial for Nancy Cooper who was slain in Cary, N.C. last week.

Cooper, who was born in Sherwood Park, was remembered as a loving mother to her two daughters Bella, 4, and Katie, 2, as well as a good friend to many.

"I know that five other people all thought they were her best friend growing up," said Cooper's high school friend Anna McRoberts. "She just made everyone feel so special."
Krista Lister leaves a memorial service for her twin sister Nancy Cooper whose body was found in a suburb near Raleigh North Carolina earlier this week. She is holding her sister's two daughters Katie Cooper (left/2-years-old) and Bella

Cooper's brother Jeff Rentz, who is an Edmonton police officer, read statements from Cooper's friend Hanna Pritchard, who could not attend the memorial service.

"Nancy made friends very easily," Rentz read. "I know that each birthday that passes is getting me a little closer to seeing Nancy's beautiful smile again."

After the service, Rentz told the media that the family is holding up as well as can be expected and that they had a birthday party for Katie who turned two Tuesday.

"Katie is young, so it's a little bit over her head, but Bella is starting to figure it out," he said.
