Perhaps they should show photos of the people that they are wondering if anyone saw!

The Sheriff is saying it's a focused search and that the community isn't in any danger and they are again looking for leads from locals. They haven't found Mariah.

The statement that the community is not in danger is telling... If it wasn’t the mom or live in, wouldn't that mean a person on the loose is breaking into homes and stealing babies.

Is anyone else thinking there are new developments, but not in time for the presser to be updated? Or that LE didn't want to tip their hands before knowing more?

I think this I think LE knows a lot more than what they are telling the public. I think they don't want to show their hand yet. Especially given the sheriff's previous LE roles. My family is all either nurses, or police officers, and one sheriff, and we all think the same thing.

FBI did a much better job than the Sheriff. Even if you aren't disclosing new information, there's a way to do it that doesn't make you sound like a careless jerk. Laughing and shrugging when there's a missing child and a terrified community is inexcusable IMO.

It looks like this is the first lifetime press conference for that Sheriff. I'd expect that he plays a much smaller role in the next one.

They couldn't have found her because someone would have reported the Medical Examiner showing up.

In rural NC, the ME might not arrive at the scene in a particular vehicle, or at all for that matter.

ETA: Also, an ME might have to come from a bigger city. JMO

My feed kept cutting off. Did any reporters ask outright if they found her? I feel like they would have just delayed the 3:30 presser if they found her but didn't want to announce it until later today. This presser served no purpose if they found her and are trying to keep it under wraps. JMO.

I don't like this Sheriff. When asked where the parents were, he laughed and said "I don't know where they are!" Come on.

He is smart. He knows what the media is trying to do. They (media) want to find the parents so they can harass them and try to get Nancy Grace style sound bites. The media can't be trusted in these types of cases, they're not looking for truth or facts, they just want something juicy to whip up the hoards of people looking to blame someone. I'm sure he knows where the parents are but thankfully he won't feed them to the media sharks.

That was just a whole load of nothing. They know more than they're letting on. I mean, how can you stand there and say you don't know where the parents are? You're searching for their daughter and you don't know? Really? WTF?

The Sheriff just waffled away and said absolutely nothing to put peoples mind at rest.

..... and breathe

Smart is not the word I would use based on that presser.

he did seem just too lighthearted about the whole thing.......

This emphasis on whether anyone spoke to or saw the parents on/after Sunday is telling imo.
I'm starting to think that something happened to Mariah before Sunday.

They keep repeating that they are looking for someone who had contact with the family on Sunday. I feel like that is the only reason they had this presser. I don't think they don't want to give even a bit of new info. They are still looking for evidence/tips from the public. JMO.

Right. And doesn't this request beg the question, why isn't the family able to say or point to anyone being able to vouch for them being seen on Sunday? They keep asking the public, suggests the family is unable to name anyone who has seen them Sunday. Strange, to me.

I think the fact that they aren't repeating in the posters what Mariah was wearing (since the very first announcements) is significant. Seems to be an arse-covering exercise while they focus on something else.

I honestly wonder if the boyfriend traded her for drugs or something. So she is still alive (maybe) and with someone who obviously isn't going to tell that they have her.

I think that's a stall tactic because he doesn't want the public to know that they're the number one POI. If pushed he could just say, "I didn't know. They could be being interrogated, could be taking a polygraph, anything."

That's precisely how I took it. I thought the reporters were pressing to see if mom and bf might be in police custody or at least being questioned, but he demurred and said he didn't know where they were. Which, as you say, could easily be the truth in a literal sense even if there is more he is not telling (e.g. "I personally don't know exactly where they are at this moment but I know we're talking to them and I don't want to tell you that"). It seemed more evasive to me than implying that the police as a whole have no idea where they have gone.

Granted, my grandmother always told me to say "I don't know" when I was asked a question I didn't want to answer. She said, "That way, you can add on '... if I want to tell you or not' in your mind and you aren't lying!" So my view of that wording is a little colored. Ha!

If there were a confession and a location given then the ME may have been on site for the entire search, just my opinion. Why I think there's more to this than the search is the way the white van left the scene with an escort with blue lights. Why would they do that if they were just leaving after finishing up? I think they have found something, may not be her but it's related to her.

That was a very vague press conference. I just couldn't finish it. Interesting points though.

Won't elaborate as to where the parents are.

Called it a targeted and focused search.

Encouraged parents to be with / spend time with their own children.

It really didn't answer any of my questions. I have to think the vagueness is very intentional.

Agreed. Reading this case I do not really trust the mom right now but I also do not want the media to go screwing things up like that have done in so many missing person cases.

I feel like most everyone believed they found her because of the live feed full of rumors and unconfirmed reports. Now some are questioning the honesty of the Sheriff because he didn't say what was expected. As far as not knowing where the parents are, he probably doesn't know from one minute to the next but I'm sure some of his detectives do, at all times. JMO.
