Just before 5 p.m. Thursday, the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office issued a media release about the Aug. 5, 1985 case of the murder of Virginia Harben, 63, of 704 Mumford Rd. in Greenville. She was found dead in her home in what officials determined was a homicide.
Detectives from the sheriff’s office Major Crimes Unit have continued to investigate the death of Harben as a cold case. Officials said that utilizing evidence from the crime scene, along with advances in scientific technology has led to the discovery of a suspect. They said the suspect has since been positively linked to the crime scene.
