True.

I didn't mean to put it so bluntly, but from putting everything together that's been reported, I think it's intact remains. Possibly due to being shrinkwrapped before burial?

Mr Cox thinks the ground would have been too frozen. Not necessarily, in early December. And there wasn't a snowstorm, either.

Here's the weather history for Dec 7th, 2009: Click here (Weather Underground).

Notice that the total snow depth at Dugway was .4 inch, with 1.4 inch month to date. No/little precip. The wind chill, however, would have been very nasty. Could cause a bad case of chapped hands.

Thanks for this. I recalled that there was not much snow that way at the time. Didn't the storm come from the south? I don't think Josh would have had any difficulty on those roads that night. And the grave is probably rather shallow.

My question is this. I read the other day about the search and that this area had been of interest to police for some time. So, why didn't they search it before now?

There's been searches for almost two years. Recently, though, they relooked at some evidence (maybe even some pictures?) and started thinking that the body may be further west.

Saw the news on the front page of AOL! I really hope Susan's family gets answers finally. After viewing the pics of that area I thank God for those dogs. Very rough terrain to try and find what's left of a body after all of this time. So sad.

thumbs up for all types of assistance dogs :rocker:

Yeah, I don't know where all that "snowstorm" stuff comes from. We DO see heavy snow in the "knit hat interview" in WVC -- but that was a heavy snow that hit Northern Utah a couple of days later. (Snow on the street where Josh parked, when Chris Jones surprised him with the microphone.)

Shallow, for sure -- but apparently not disturbed. That's an oxymoron, which is why I'm wondering if the body was wrapped tightly and bound.

If the remains are intact, and her rings weren't found in the home......any of us could see what was on her finger.

he's goin' down. I hope his children are in a safe place.

Yes if this is Susan, and she was entombed in the bubble wrap, let's hope ALL
the evidence is there to convict!
Is LE guarding the crime scene? or did they get allot and leave?
The video says they will be back tomorrow?

That's what the high desert looks like. Lots of sagebrush. Miles and miles of it, mind-numbingly the same for even more miles and miles. Makes it hard to find things, since one sagebrush can hide a body.

When you're driving on 80/90 or 6 and tumbleweed blows in front of your car they can be pretty big, when it is still rooted, it can conceal something that big.

When you think back to the beginning, when Susan went missing, and the thread on the Trib site, it has been a long journey for many who were concerned for Susan. All of the thoughts and posts and it comes down to your sentence,' I'm betting that we're dealing with a complete skeleton'. Mixed feelings here tonight, we primarily want Peace for the Cox family and justice for Susan.

ITA, and because of that, I also think that would probably mean the body was put there during winter...any other time, I think there would have been a high likelihood that it would have been disturbed by coyotes/fox/whatever other carnivore there would in that area.

Yeah, the rumored shrink wrap. If this body had plastic around it, he is done for!

One article said two officers were camping at the site for tonight. The excavation will probably be done tomorrow, and hopefully by Friday we will at least know if it is *not* Susan. (If it is her, they better arrest Josh before it is announced. Heck, arrest his dad too, and sort it out later.)

Well my guess is a few reasons such as maybe they did stick something under all the vehicles like the scott peterson case ..and they they would have that as evidence also maybe by doing such they could get this place more narroed down also tap phones . wait till his father goes off the deep end we all have witnessed that as of now all this is more ecidance against josh and if they did put in a homing device on his car and they see the trips to the location ..or if they didnt but still get a general location ..i dought she is going anywhere ya sure wild live would play a role but not each and every last bone they new they had the time they needed to get the evidence on josh and let it pile up...Thats my take on it anyway...........................................

If nothing else 'obstruction' would be a good charge for chantrey. :)

We were in west desert area, on 80 and further down to 6, at least 5 times that winter and I only remember one time that there was significant snow, in February '10. That was on 80 and didn't really start being heavy until Skull Valley area.

OT: I'm really glad I don't have that job... :eek:hoh:

Just got off the phone with Kiirsi Hellewell and she sounded so tired. I feel for Susan's family and friends. The emotional roller coaster they are riding must be hell.

Kiirsi really didn't have much to add other than the fact the police were searching for Susan and found a body makes this more emotional for everyone.

I want to remind everyone that the place the police are searching is HUGE and there are thousands of missing people. People go missing in the desert all the time and they have for many years.

Let's hope and pray this is Susan for her loved ones sake and then maybe we will see justice. And hopefully Susan's boys will be removed from the sick environment of the Powell home.

Bodies keep turning up everywhere :( One in Lauren's case two days ago, and also in Katelyn's case yesterday...so these remains may NOT be Susan...I am trying to prepare myself for that possibility as I really want this to be her, for the sake of her family and friends, and to get justice started. I feel certain that no one in her family believes she has been alive all this time, and just need to have her back.

I do think that it is very possibly Susan; LE has said nothing about these being the remains of a male, or anything they generally say rather quickly to dispel rumors.

I agree that it is too early to tell if it is Susan. If it isn't it wouldn't be the first time that a search for one person led to the remains of another person.

I do wonder how much LE excavated today. And it stinks that the coroner won't be there until tomorrow. But if they even uncovered the soil over the remains I don't think they would disturb them until the coroner views them. If they were covered. But even if they know or strongly believe that it is a female, or if they believe it is Susan they won't tell media until after it is verified by the coroner. That is a considered to be a specialist decision and LE isn't qualified.

What did I miss, the search yielded a body but not yet identified?
