The State Office of Victim/Witness Assistance was created legislatively (RSA 21-M) in 1987, to provide 24-hour direct services and support in all of the state's homicide cases, to coordinate efforts among the county attorneys, law enforcement and other agencies to develop and standardize services for victims of crime statewide, to develop protocols and policies for the various disciplines and to provide training to all of the professionals involved.
The State Office of Victim/Witness Assistance, within the New Hampshire Attorney General's Office, is committed to ensuring that all victims of crime in New Hampshire are treated with the dignity and respect that they deserve, recognizing that the criminal justice system can be confusing and frightening to those citizens who have been traumatized by crime. The New Hampshire Crime Victim Bill of Rights outlines the rights victims have under the law.

Our Services
Today, crime victims and survivors of more than 1,600 current inmates and parolees are registered with the NH Department of Corrections for notification services. (In 1997, less than 400 inmates had victims registered for notification.) During SFY 2008, 1,860 victim/survivor households were served through 5,303 documented service contacts by the Victim Services Bureau. Victims experiencing domestic violence concerns constituted seven (7%) percent of victims and survivors served.
