...The 46-year-old actor, who played young Sioux character Smiles a Lot in Kevin Costner’s 1990 Oscar-winning film, was formally charged Monday in North Las Vegas with counts including sex trafficking, sexual assault against a child younger than 16 and child abuse.

Court documents said he was the leader of a cult-like group called “The Circle.”

“Nathan Chasing Horse, by portraying himself as a ‘Holy Man’ or ‘Medicine Man’, has gained the trust of Indigenous families and their children,” an arrest report filed in the U.S. said. “Upon earning this trust, Nathan Chasing Horse used his position to lure vulnerable young girls, often giving them a sense of belonging, to commit sexual assault.”

Clark County District Judge Carli Kierny said the trial in the case of Nathan Chasing Horse will begin May 1 in Las Vegas to give prosecutors and Chasing Horse's public defenders more time to iron out pending motions in the case. His trial had previously been scheduled for April 17.

A Clark County grand jury indicted Chasing Horse, 46, in late February on 19 counts that include charges of sexual assault of a child younger than 16, kidnapping, lewdness and child abuse. Chasing Horse, who is widely known for his portrayal of Smiles a Lot in Kevin Costner's 1990 Oscar-winning film, has pleaded not guilty and invoked his right to a trial within 60 days of his indictment.

''Prosecutors and police have said the abuse allegations against Chasing Horse date to the early 2000s and span two countries and multiple states. He also faces criminal charges in U.S. District Court in Nevada and British Columbia, Canada, as well as on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Montana.

Chasing Horse is accused of using his position as a self-proclaimed medicine man to gain access to vulnerable Indigenous women and girls and take underage wives. Authorities have described him as the leader of a cult known as "The Circle," whose members believe he has healing abilities and can communicate to higher beings.''

Nathan Chasing Horse, who invoked his right to a trial within 60 days of his indictment, was originally set to stand trial May 1. A grand jury in Las Vegas indicted him in late February on charges of sexual assault of a minor, kidnapping, lewdness, child abuse and drug trafficking.

Clark County District Judge Carli Kierny said Wednesday during a brief court hearing that she would set a new trial date if the Nevada Supreme Court upholds her decision to deny Chasing Horse’s request to have his case thrown out. Chasing Horse and his attorneys have argued that two women identified as his victims wanted to have sex with him.

Kierny set a hearing for May 10 to check on the status of Chasing Horse’s appeal to the high court, which had yet to be filed on Wednesday.

''TSUUT’INA FIRST NATION - Police in Alberta say they anticipate more complainants will come forward after a former actor and self-described medicine man was charged with sexual exploitation and sexual assault in the province.

The Tsuut’ina Nation Police Service announced Tuesday that warrantshave been issuedfor Nathan Chasing Horse, who appeared in the 1990 movie “Dances With Wolves.“

He faces nine charges, including sexual exploitation, sexual assault and removing a child from Canada under the age of 16.

He has been in jail in Las Vegas since his arrest in January in southern Nevada, where he is charged with 18 felonies, including sexual assault of a minor, child abuse and kidnapping.

“At the end of the day, it is important for us to have the warrants on the system so our victims know they’ve been heard,” Tsuut’ina police Sgt. Nancy Farmer said Wednesday.

She would not say how many complainants have come forward to police at the First Nation west of Calgary, but said there are multiple.''

What a disgrace, praying on his own people who were vulnerable and trusted him to help. Hope he goes away for the rest of his life.
