If he shot the security guard once in the leg, he must have been using something other than an automatic weapon since it would seem to be hard to just fire one bullet from an automatic weapon, what weapon did he use to shoot himself?

rbbm.Lombardo described Paddock, who he revealed was gambling at the casino hours before the attack, as a “disturbed and dangerous” man who had apparently led a “secret life” that left few clues about his actions.
He confirmed that investigators were exploring whether there was some incident in October 2016 that would explain why, in the year that followed, he purchased some 33 new weapons.
But he left gave the impression that Las Vegas and the FBI have been left flummoxed by the case, saying Paddock did not appear to conform to the profile of other mass murderers. “We haven’t understood it yet,” he said. “You have to be patient with us.”

this is the story and news station my friend says but it won't let me watch so grain of salt as ya'all say.I don't know if MD knew what he was up to but I was talking to a friend from Dallas today and he said the six o clock news interviewed the gunstore owner in garland texas where the killer bought some guns a few years ago and the gunshot owner said M D was with the killer and flamboyant and had a "bedazzled" walking cane. I'm look for link.

Las Vegas gunman's secret life thwarts investigators' hunt for motive
Sheriff Joseph Lombardo believes shooter likely had an accomplice
The Associated Press Posted: Oct 05, 2017 1:06 AM ET
Lombardo said Wednesday that Paddock had 1,600 rounds of ammunition and several containers of an explosive commonly used in target shooting that totalled 23 kilograms in his car. But it wasn't clear what, if anything, Paddock planned with the explosives, he said.
In response to a question, Lombardo said investigators were examining the possibility Paddock's purchase of more than 30 guns in October 2016 may have been precipitated by some triggering event in his life. He did not elaborate.
On Sept. 28, the 64-year-old high-stakes gambler and real estate investor checked into Mandalay Bay and specifically requested an upper-floor room with a view of the Route 91 Harvest music festival, according to a person who has seen hotel records turned over to investigators.
Paddock wasn't able to move into the room until Saturday, said the person, who was not authorized to speak publicly and disclosed the information to the AP on condition of anonymity.
For the 10 dollar tip... In Vegas for a guy that likes to consider himself a high roller 10 bucks would be a small tip
Campos provided information over the phone that helped authorities locate the 32nd-floor room that Paddock was firing from, a spokesperson for the union said.
Arms dealer? Laundering?
Something is off. Something is different. It's as if LE is asking in their own way if anyone has more information about him. And as Lola mentioned above, I have no doubt he perhaps had a bit of fun in his room in the days leading up to this. Curious about DNA samples in room. Someone out there possibly paid a visit.
I don't know if this could be possible...just trying to figure something out like everyone else... but...
Could MD have been involved with a terrorist group in any way, and the funds were being sent to fund that? Could he have been leaving her, and truly did send the money, and use her casino card to point the FBI at her for the terrorist connection? I don't know.
I keep thinking there's some money laundry, gun selling...something we don't know about that enabled him to have that lifestyle. Something threatened the life he knew. Maybe that failed lawsuit for falling. He could have been losing more than winning lately, and while maybe not as financially strapped as some of us are, if others in the family are dependent on his money to survive, and he has this status with the family of being a multimillionaire ... it would crush his image. He wouldn't be able to support his mother, brother, ladyfriend and whoever else. I would imagine falling from that tall horse would be a hard fall.
I agree. I think he has saved more lives and probably another entire event of violence and destruction than he will ever realize. I think shooter thought that the security guard was one of many and he was caught. He didn't escape.in time. I think his plan was to hide in plain sight. Get out of the hotel like a scared guest, just like everyone else. Not sure if this has been posted, but sounds like the security guard really was instrumental in stopping the shooter.

Also sounds like he's lucky to be alive.
