I wish they would elaborate more on the statement that mass killers do not just snap. I'm sure someone here can school me on this. I generally don't follow mass killings closely. But I had the sense that several mass killers had, in fact, just snapped. The difference between them and Paddock in my mind is that we usually know more about why they snapped, and have more information about how they devolved to that point.

Typically the term snap is used by the media but is actually inline with a psychotic break with reality as a result of a psychosis.
Or
a delusional disorder wherein the person believes he /she is god or being followed or the cia is after them etc -- prompting there perceived notion that they must kill all the spies outside at the concert that are there to come kill him -- that kind of thing
there are similar myths out there about suicide. That it is an impulsive act. Rarely - unless we are back into the realm to losing touch with reality, (I am going to meet Jesus or thoughts along that line.
Suicide is typically a long battle not to as opposed to an impulsive act.
When one has concerns about a pt being suicidal you ask.
You would be amazed , when they are at real high risk of attempting , the answers you will get.
If you get a real generalized answer (I would take some pills- as opposed to I have 65 tablets of XXXX in medicine cabinet - that's different.
When asked where they would do it if they say not sure that is different than I would
get into bed thats a totally different answer
If you get reasonable answers regarding what has so far preventing you from attempting that is important data.
If you ask what time of day it would be and you get answer that is significant.
If you get mention of I gave my music collection away -- that too is significant
If they say they will shoot themselves you explore - do they have access to a gun.
If you ask how they think loved ones would feel and you get a detailed answer that is significant info
On the the other hand if you get the wont give a X that is different info.
Will updated?
etc etc
etc etc
Thus far we have no indications that he was actively psychotic - that certainly does not rule out other mental illness issues -- but that is why I mentioned it as it relates to the sheriffs idiotic statements regarding looking for a trigger.
Not how it works you idiot!
Go back in your memory in many many there is very very long periods of time in the planning phase.
Actually right off my head the only three that come to mind are the planned parenting shooting and the congresswoman attack that were like instant.
Both were actively psychotic.
Planned parenthood was also suffering with delusions - he was saving kids or something along those lines.
Virginia Tech Cho was actively psychotic at the time.
Holmes was delusional - he was the Joker.
Rogers wrote a book about it before he did it .
Columbine kids endless pages of writings.
Dylan had many writings.
The NY had like what 90 videos?
Boston guys had lots of stuff.
Omar had one night of looking at ISIS stuff
while at the same time that week had an entire evening of searching for antipsychotic meds
Just mo from what little we know if reliable he might have suffered with a mood disorder and certainly was personality
disordered.
But at a very quiet level we have to remember that dad mysteriously, got caught , plead no contest, and also served no time
Paddock , if there is any accuracy to my speculation that he got caught gun running years ago and to avoid jail turned undercover regarding gun running -- he would have familiarity that it did keep his dad from incarnation and gave him another 8 years as a freeman
and what does dad start a gambling entity
all of it reeks of going undercover , going wrong, and intel agencies can not have the operation out in the public domain
It might interrupt other operations.
imo
