The word "potential" is important; I've never believed the "he went there for a Sunday-at-noon job interview" theory.

He may have been there for some purpose (to complete something employment-related, debt-related, personal).....but if there were job interviews being held in SCA, there's never been a mention of other interviewees.

Agreed. Just trying to employ the process of elimination - such as it is.

I need to learn how to make one of those red, round circles with a line through it -- and put it over that particular entry in "scenarios" ;)

I would be more than happy to help you with that but, honestly, I don't know that we can completely discount ANYTHING. I feel certain that whatever happens with this case, shock and awe will be involved in the end.

I agree with you on this too.

I am starting to suspect that whatever happened is something that never occurred to us -- possibly something that we couldn't have guessed based on what we know.

You know, now that you mention it, I remembered a thought I had a couple of days ago when I was not near a computer....

We've been told by more than one person who knows Steven that finding a good job was at the top of his list of priorities. Yet, IIRC, we have also been told that there were several copies of his resume and unsent job applications found in his room. And laytonian has mentioned several times that there were plenty of jobs to be had in St. George. Yet Steven was still doing his thing (???) for TH and spending time driving around. It just doesn't seem to me that he WAS trying very hard and it seems unlikely that he would have skipped church & duty for a job interview in Las Vegas on a Sunday - whatever the circumstances.

Nope. I just don't think his being here had anything to do with potential employment.

If Steven was moving to St. George looking for a job, it was NOT aplace that there are alot of jobs. The housing market is very poor, alot like Las Vegas and Phoenix. Friends of mine are losing their homes, and their jobs. Jobs are not easy to come by there.

TH might have had some EXTRA work for him. Work sk might have not known alot about.

The company my husband works for, had a couple of openings that Steven could have worked; they weren't glamorous, but they were things he could have made a upward-bound career out of. The interesting thing? He'd have driven by that company, almost every day.

I know it's tough for the residents, but the snowbirds and wealthy tourists bring a lot of money into St George in the winter. There's lots of high-end restaurants, clubs, and spas.

The service industry isn't glamorous, but those companies are always hiring. Even working in a convenience store is a job, even if it wasn't what he intended as a career. At least it would have been an income, and better than canvassing with flyers. Unless.........

....or someone else could have put him to work a bit, too.

I agree. But WTH have we NOT discussed? There has to be something!

Either that or it's something we HAVE discussed that cannot be substantiated.....yet.

....and I keep thinking it will turn out to be more banal than we've suspected. But maybe that IS what will be shocking ;)

Steven may have not been real confident about a job. When a friend of his said he had a hard time speaking in church, maybe he realzed it, and did not feel real confident.

I have close relatives in St. George. When afew jobs opened at Harmon"s grocery store, 500 people applied. Many people from Mesquite have tried to find work in St. George since the casinos shut down there. One relative, has had to shut down restaraunts and other businesses. There are jobs, but not many.

SK, if he had some of the medical probems we have talked about, he was probably struggling getting a job.

Actually, there is no evidence that Steven went to SG looking for a job. He gave other reasons for wanting to move there.

I'm not sure we - or anyone else - really know why he moved to SG.

When I talked to Steven's mom last August, she told me that he moved to St.
looking for work. She told my husband and I, she was worried because he had not found work yet.

Given the Ruby Valley trip, do we know if SK knew any women in Las Vegas from his past that he might have been going to see?

In my past, I have had old boyfriends appear out of the blue, just because they were in town - or so they said.

It might have been a reason for which he would miss church. He seemed to be a man on a mission to find "the one."

I don't know what the connection to his disappearance might be - just wondering about why he was there on that day at that time. Could he have run into a jealous SO, not knowing that the woman he was looking up was engaged, married, or otherwise taken?

I find that scenario a lot more plausible than many others that have been discussed.

Do you think Steven told his family the truth, about why he moved?
I don't.

First of all, we know he was working for matchbin when he moved (and KCN said it was believed that matchbin asked him to move down there); then they let him go a month later.

Initially, his mother told the reporters that he'd moved to escape the cold weather (connected with quitting the Tribune) -- yet, he'd quit the Tribune almost a year before....and gsmith said it was because of "worldly" coworkers.

I really don't think he knew how to look for a job, even though he seemed to spend a lot of time spinning his wheels. I think "looking for a job" was a cover for something. I think he WAS doing something else. He obviously was paying his rent somehow, except for the last 3-4 months.

Whatever his real reason was, his family didn't know about it.

The more reasons we hear for his moving down to Southern Utah, the more I'm convinced that his move was the eventual impetus for his disappearance.

What did Steven do at the Tribune? Did he have access to any info that was delicate?

Still missing and it is six months tomorrow.

Steven, if you're out there, please come home.

It looks like I'm not the only one, having the "six month vibes" -- like maybe tomorrow will bring news (?)

Or maybe it's the "just another milestone vibe".

Absolutely. I have believed from the outset St. George was designed to get him away from his immediate family and closer to his intended, whoever he or she might have been.

Since it was a big secret, it was probably a him. So he went to St, George to be in closer proximity to this guy, tests the water out a bit and decides to make a go for it.

Sounds more than reasonable to me.
