STUYVESANT – The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of skeletal remains.

At about 1p.m. on Sunday, the sheriff’s office received a call from an individual who was doing excavation work on private property in the Town of Stuyvesant. The caller said he discovered the remains on the property off Route 9J in Stuyvesant.

Skeletal remains found in Columbia County

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office says human skeletal remains were found in the area just off of 1590 Route 9J in Stuyvesant, NY, Sunday afternoon. The area where the remains were found is at the top of a very steep hill in a wooded location on a private property. The top of the hill remains blocked off with crime tape at this time.

Authorities say they do not believe these are new remains and are working with a state anthropologist and a pathologist to determine the age of the remains. The Sheriff's Office says the investigation is in it's infancy stages and no additional information is available at this time.
