@madamx I think you know best about these NY cases. I have a hard time with them. Texas is my jam LOL. If you feel strongly about any one of them, let me know! I’ll submit for sure. :)

awwww thank you sooo much!!! Yeah you know I don’t submit. I have a hard time with them when they are 1980s 1970s and earlier because they are not in namus.. so if they died in the city I have to look at the Hart Island files.. it’s a pain in the *advertiser censored*!

I found the fish kill woman in the trunk ( the trunk has the NYC connection but I don’t know) that trunk that belonged to June Leaf has always fascinated me .... but iam still looking for more..

I feel so bad for this Jaqueline lady.. her photos are terrible and there is such little info on her..

Oooh good to know you are the Texas connection!!!

And yet, as days turned into weeks and months, I would listen to the families and to the cops and FBI agents on this case, and hundreds of others, and I would marvel at their determination and their belief that we would, in fact, solve this one. Or this one. Or this one.

And I wondered: How did they all manage, in the midst of such sorrow, to keep hope alive?

It was a question I have pondered all my life.

I was about the age Berry is now when my stepsister, Jackie, disappeared. She suffered from schizophrenia and one night ran out of our house in Rockaway, New York, in a mania-induced rage. She was last seen headed to Manhattan on the A train, wearing no coat in the middle of winter, probably without a dime in her pocket.

My family was not one of those brave, strong families I would meet years later; Jackie’s disappearance tore our family apart. Her mother was driven to madness by the not-knowing, my father driven to depression and attempted suicide by a life that had become a lonely prison, caged in by his wife’s grief. They became, thoroughly and utterly, hopeless.

Lessons from 'America's Most Wanted': Never give up - CNN

I came across this from her stepbrother. we get a little more information. She seemed to be going to Manhattan.

The A train is probably the longest ride. Starts at Rockaway goes through Queens Brooklyn and Manhattan ends at Inwood . She could of gotten off anywhere ugh

I have been trying to find out how the weather was. And pretty much like all March weather in NYC it was all over the place..

New York Weather Highlights of 1979

MARCH

6 - An all-day rain dumped 2.63", a record for the date. Temperatures were well above average, with a high/low of 56°/49°, fifteen degrees above average.

11 - A rainy morning (0.75" fell) preceded passage of a cold front that dropped the temperature from 49° in the early AM to 25° by midnight - the coldest reading in nearly three weeks.

15 - One day after the high temperature reached 64° at noon, today's afternoon temperatures were only in the upper 20s.

16 - The morning low of 20° (fifteen degrees below average) was the coldest reading since Feb. 19, when it was 17°.

30 - Today's high of 76°, twenty degrees above average, was the first 70-degree reading of the year.

Interesting she was found almost exactly a year to the day she went missing.
Missing: 25th March 1979.
Found: 20th March 1980.

Obviously she hadn't been in the travel trunk by the dumpster all this time, so I wonder what she had been up to?

Homeless and wandering?
Abducted and held hostage?
Both?
.....and to be decapitated too. Just awful and so sickening.

Yeah I was wondering if it’s her what was she doing the whole time. But yes the Dates are interesting, I thought so too.

I do love those photos @madamx. Thank you for sharing them.

I love that kind of scuzzy feel NYC had back then (like in the film Desperately Seeking Susan from 1986). It was still a bit that way into the early 90s I believe.
One of my childhood dreams was to be a 'Guardian angel' in NYC, complete with white T shirt and red berét hat. We used to see them on the TV over here in the UK. :D
