The Times Union of Albany reported local officials said a limo speeding down a hill crashed into bystanders at the Apple Barrel Country Store on Saturday in Schoharie. That's about 270 kilometres north of New York City.

The store is a popular spot for autumn leaf-peepers.

OMG!! 18 people that knew each other, that is just beyond tragic. I'm trying to think of activities that would have 18 people in a limousine, and I can't think of 18 adults in a limousine, but I can think of occasions for 18 young adults or teenagers to be in a limousine.

At 1:55 p.m. on a Saturday, I'm thinking it could indeed be a wedding party.

1 hour and 45 minutes until the press conference. This is beyond awful for families and loved ones.

ETA, or it could be one of those social media Meetup activities, where a bunch of people get together and go look at fall leaves in a limousine.

Yep, wedding party. :-(

"Rt. 30 at Rt. 30A Saturday afternoon involving a limo carrying a wedding party on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018 in Schoharie, N.Y. 20 people are reported to have died in the accident.."

Appears the wedding was supposed to have happened today, so it probably was a group activity for the guests.

20 killed in Schoharie limousine crash

ETA... later reports are disputing that this was a wedding party and are saying something different. So take this original Report with a grain of salt which may be updated later and be corrected?

Limo Crash Leaves 20 Dead at Popular Tourist Spot in Upstate New York
"Lester Andrews, 60, from Rochester, N.Y., said his two stepsons and a daughter-in-law were among three of the people killed in the crash. They were in the limousine.

The brothers, Axel Steenburg, 29, and Rich Steenburg, 34, lived upstate, he said. Axel Steenburg’s wife, Amy, also died in the crash, he said.
Axel and Amy, who live in Amsterdam, N.Y., and were married over the summer, were the ones who rented the limousine, he said.

“They rented the limo with some families and I don’t know exactly what they were doing.” Mr. Andrews said in a phone interview. “There’s just a lot of confusion, so many people died,” he said."

“Their mother is looking for some answers, he said. “She wants to know what happened to her sons.”
"Mr. Tavenner said the site of the accident was a notoriously dangerous spot, a “nasty intersection” that transportation officials had tried to fix in the past without success."

Mr. Andrews said on Saturday night that he went to Axel’s house to take care of his bull mastiff.

“When we went to pick up the dog, all the people that they were with had all their cars parked in front of their house,” Mr. Andrews said.

Investigators, he said, were trying to match the license plates with the victims in the limousine.

Quite a bit of information on who was killed, and some relations, and the speed of the vehicle Etc at this site.

So sad hearing about this crash. Praying for the families and loved ones of all involved.

A lot of questions at this early stage.

> was this a limo bus VS town car?
> one article states limo was going 60mph. Wondering about speed limit?
> one article says limo heading to reception another says wedding.
> father of couple who rented the limo says he didn't know what they were doing. Wouldn't he have known about wedding if two sons in wedding party?
> did all limo passengers perish? No survivors?
> this crash happened yesterday No media reports until 24 hrs later.

Very sad.
