Mother accused of leaving ‘Geauga’s Child’ to die in woods 28 years ago appears in court

GEAUGA COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) - The mother accused of killing “Geauga’s Child” appeared in court on Wednesday morning for a motions hearing.

Proceedings for Gail Ritchey were held at 9 a.m. at the Geauga County Court of Common Pleas. The defense and prosecution met on Wednesday to discuss whether the baby was actually born alive.

Despite her confession to detectives, Ritchey pleaded not guilty during her initial arraignment. She posted the $250,000 bail and was released on the condition that she wears GPS monitoring.

Ritchey also admitted to detectives that she committed a similar crime two years prior to the birth of Geauga’s Child in Cuyahoga County. That case is still under investigation.

Bonded out 6/10/19; GPS monitor & surrendered passport.
