The Yellow Springs Police Department is currently investigating a missing persons case involving a local 26-year-old male, Leonid A. Clark, according to a press release today.

Clark grew up in the village and attended Yellow Springs Schools.

Today the YSPD, along with Miami Township Fire-Rescue, are assisting Buckeye Search and Rescue Dogs to search Glen Helen Nature Preserve, an area Clark was known to frequent.

Local police added that they we have no indication that Clark is injured or deceased, however Buckeye Search and Rescue Dogs were asked to assist in the investigation because of the cold weather forecast.

Clark frequently leaves town without notifying family, however the length of his absence without contact caused the family to reach out to law enforcement after exhausting their efforts to locate his whereabouts, according to the YSPD, which has been actively looking for Clark for about one week.

Clark was classified as a missing person on Wednesday, Feb. 6, after failing to appear in Missouri for a scheduled court hearing.

Family searching for man missing from Yellow Springs

[...]

Clark disappeared a month after he helped clean up a Corry Street apartment after police were finished there investigating an accidental shooting in which one man died, according to Lonya’s adoptive father, Eric Clark. [Clark had no connection to the shooting]

Clark said his son is the kind of person who always volunteered to help when needed, but he was deeply troubled after Dec. 13. Clark said his son volunteered to help clean up the scene and that “was not the best choice for him to make.”

Clark said his gut tells him his son’s connection to the incident that day is a factor in his disappearance.

“It affected him more than he was able to verbalize,” Clark said. “He came over to our house several times and he would just pace back and forth in our living room … He’d talk about it in a sentence or two … He needed to talk about it but didn’t know how.”

Missing Yellow Springs man, Lonya Clark, confirmed dead
The Montgomery County Coroner’s office confirmed Leonid “Lonya” Clark’s death early Tuesday morning. A message left with the Greene County Sheriff’s office, which is handling the investigation into Clark’s death, has not been returned.
It’s unclear at this time how Clark, 26, died or where his body was found.

New development.

Death of missing Yellow Springs man being investigated as homicide

The investigation into the death of Leonid Clark is now a homicide investigation, according to Greene County Sheriff Gene Fischer.

The body of the 26-year-old was discovered Friday afternoon in the Glen Helen Nature Preserve.

Fischer said Clark’s body was wounded and appeared to be dumped east of where his body was found.

Definitely did not see this coming. I figured with the spotlight on his mental status leading up to his disappearance that it was a suicide. I wonder if it’s possible that the wounds found could have been self inflicted after all or if they are definitely from another person? Does anyone know what Lonya was supposed to be in court for in Missouri? The father stated that he believes Lonya helping clean up the gunshot scene and his disappearance are related, could he possibly mean that Lonya took to drugs to help cope? If so, could this be a drug deal gone wrong? It was stated several times that he had no money. Poor guy, I hope they find out what happened.

Did a little online sleuthing, seems the court case in Missouri was for felony burglary and property damage. It was in the county of Greene, I found the information on the public records search.

Perhaps the homicide is connected to the burglary? The burglary was before he helped clean up the crime scene.

Family still seeking closure in Yellow Springs homicide

“[his father] said sheriff’s investigators have told them certain details of what they know so far that they can’t discuss..
The only details from the investigation that have been released so far is that Lonya Clark’s body was found in a decomposed state on the bank of the Little Miami River. He was fully clothed, but his body showed evidence of injuries inflicted by another person..
typical, almost family-like, small town situation where nobody wants to get anybody else in trouble, and that right now I think is a huge mistake.”
