lynie said:Yep...just finished a news conference with Joel Courtneys family....basically that his family (conference given by his older sister) would appreciate no media contact, and that she would be the family spokesperson. They have small children and an elderly relative in the home, and any additional upheavel could be harmful to these innocent people.
She also said that she is impressed with the professionalism and courtesy of the law enforcement folks that they have dealt with.
Sounds like the Courtney family is a decent one, I am sorry he has placed them in a bad position...
Bhodi...I know all of us were throwing around therories...The remarks about RStJ I believe refer to the insistence he had that the Corvallis police were trying to cover for the brother-in-law, and putting out some ideas that could be considered hurtful to the Wilberger family.
Heck, I too thought that she could have been "stolen" by a religious sect! especially after reading "Under the Banner of Heaven". I really wish this were the case (
Just for clarification though, since I am an active Mormon woman living in Salem and most of my close acquaintances and family members are also LDS I would like people to know that we do NOT have anything to do with broken off sects of the LDS church. Mainstream Mormonism is not into all of that strange, wierd stuff you read about in books like "Under the Banner of Heaven". There are sick, sick individuals in all walks of life proclaiming affiliations with almost every mainstream religions, people that have taken their sick minds to the extreme. These individuals should not be confused with the normal, good that the religion that they soiled does. The REAL Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is an honorable, good church. We do more for the world as a whole second to only Red Cross and now are often there before Red Cross in world catostrophes. You do not hear about these good works because we believe in serving the Lord and not for seeking recognition. Brooke's family was from the normal LDS family. Again, I reiterate, we do not associate with sects that have broken away. I know of one person in all my life that has ever associated themselves with these extreme fundamentalists and he left his family and moved to Montana to have more wives and live that way of life. I have never had contact with him again and I would not want to. I thought he was way "off" before he left. I mean come on, you can normally tell when they are stranger than science.
