Sorry Carole... it's been a long time since I was on a non medical forum. :innocent:
The young boy who looks so much like Kyron, who's family has been getting harassed. The reason I could immediately tell the difference is because this second young man has CP - Cerebral Palsy. (I am actually pretty sure his family said that in the interview?) It is not glaringly obvious but I picked up on the drooling and the posture I suppose. I can't really put a label on it, I just recognized the difference. He also has both ears pierced. There really is a striking resemblance there though.
A birth certificate (even a copy) can be risky to have on you in person considering identity theft problems of today. Do children even have picture ID's? Is that what you mean in B)? Not to be sarcastic here, but why can't these people just refuse to answer their door or just say 'no comment' if they choose to do so?
Yes, of course it would be risky. But so is being followed and stalked because people think you have kidnapped a child. What if someone decides to physically prevent one of the parents or the child from leaving, because they are so convinced it is Kyron? The parents do have legitimate fears here which is why they did the interview, so people would know this child is NOT Kyron.
The issue is regular citizens out in regular public places. When someone thinks you have an abducted child that is probably not the best time to utilize "no comment."
If they do choose to go out in public, I am suggesting they have a copy of his birth certificate in their wallet, along with their own
(the parents) picture identification on them at all times. Then when someone in the store, or the doctor's office, or the bank, thinks they kidnapped Kyron and says something, follows them home, calls law enforcement, whatever they decide to do.... they will have his birth certificate there, along with their picture ID's with the same names. I would also have family pictures from the last few years.
This is what law enforcement would ask for at a minimum. If they were not confident in being able to visually determine the child wasn't the missing child. No birth marks or scars clearly visible or missing, or major feature differences. Having these things with them and ready will just make their life easier. They won't have to go home from the store or doctor to get them, since it seems the issue isn't really happening at home where they have access to that.
Many civilians, would not believe a birth certificate... which is why I also suggest the letter from the Sheriff/FBI stating this is not Kyron.
I also think law enforcement should enter it into the database when they clear a Kyron "lookalike", so that if their name is run through the system again it will come up just like their other information. That they have investigated this and cleared this child. I imagine it would save time with them checking the same family 12 times without realizing it, because they were 12 different officers or even different jurisdictions. :twocents:
