"Officials say Elaine was "showing off" a .380-caliber handgun. A police news release provides an account of what they say happened next."
From LE news release:
"
Upon the suggestion of her father, Jose Rentas, all three of these subjects(Jose, Elaine and her husband Samoad) went to the basement for the purpose of test firing the handgun there. Elaine Key then fired a single shot from this handgun at a previously set up target in the basement, which was set up in front of a propped up door, directly in front of a window, which led to the sidewalk/street and ultimately to homes across the street. The round from the handgun went through this hollow core door(which was essentially being used as a back stop for the target), then through the window in the basement and struck the child, who was on the sidewalk just outside of the basement window. Within 2-3 feet of this door, where the bullet entered, there is a UGI Gas Meter, which is adjacent to the door, but in the direction in which the shot was fired and could have easily been struck by a bullet, but fortunately was not."
Q's, poss relevant to charges:
-Who did gun belong to?
-Who set up the target before they all went to basement?
-Were any of the three prohibited by law from owning or having custody of a handgun/firearm?
-Were there indications of previous shooting events in basement or elsewhere in house? By these 3?
Q's, idle curiousity
-If PA or city or co req's registration and/or licensing, did owner comply w that reqmt?
-Had gun been reported as lost or stolen?
CHARGES:
-"Authorities have charged the boy's
father, 46-year-old Jose Rentas, with reckless endangerment and aggravated assault, among other charges." from above link.
- no specifics re charges for boy/
victim's sister-shooter, altho she was "showing off" gun before.
-"
Samoad Key [boy/
victim's sister's husband]
is accused of taking the gun back to his home and hiding it on the roof."

The child is still listed in "critical condition." Sad, sad, sad, that he is in that condition.
And if any of the three purported adults had put
brain into gear for 10 sec before shooting,
the boy could be playing on sidewalk w friends now, instead of hosp.
