"LEWISBURG – The Texas truck driver who admitted killing a New York City model and leaving her body in the snow along Interstate 80 in western Union County has been sentenced to 40 to 80 years in state prison.
The sentence handed down Monday by Snyder-Union County Judge Michael H. Sholley on Tracy Ray Rollins Jr., 30, of Dallas, was in accordance with a plea agreement.
Rollins had pleaded guilty in September to third-degree murder and 20 counts of abuse of corpse in the death of Rebecca Landrith, 47.
In accordance with the plea agreement, he received consecutive 20- to 40-year terms on the homicide and 1 to 2 years each of the abuse of corpse counts.
Sholley recommended Rollins not be paroled after he serves his minimum.
Rollins chose not to say anything but chief public defender Brian Ulmer noted his client accepted responsibility for the death of Landrith, a professional model and an accomplished violinist.
She was shot 26 times and her body was left in a snowbank at the Mile Run interchange of I-80 where it was found by a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation worker on Feb. 7, 2021."
"Rollins had been charged with an open count of homicide that included first-degree murder but the family agreed with the plea agreement, he said.
Three of Landrith’s siblings and her mother described the impact her death has had on them and the family.
A nine-minute memorial video that contained still pictures of Landrith from infant to adult was played.
George Landrith III told Sholley that Rollins brutally murdered his youngest sister and discarded her like trash in a snowbank. He expressed gratitude for those who “obtained justice for Becky.
Sometimes she was too kind and was taken advantage of, her mother Patricia McGinnis said in her remarks.
“You can’t replace a child,” she said, echoing her son in saying she was brutally murdered and “discarded like a piece of garbage.”
There is no closure but “I have peace in that when I die I know I will see Rebecca again,” she said."
"Rollins never said in any court proceeding why he killed the woman who had been traveling with him.
Based on the recovery of spent shells and biological material it was determined the murder scene was the sleeper portion of Rollins’ truck."
