The victim was shot six times with an AR-15, so it’s sadly no surprise that he did not survive. Poor guy, just trying to make a living and help support his wife and 3 kids.

More surprising to me is how the perpetrator got such a big weapon (compared to a smaller weapon like a handgun) into that hospital in the first place—there are metal detectors at every entrance to that facility, as far as I am aware, so I’m wondering if the weapon came into the hospital via other means (through the delivery dock? Maybe in easily-concealed pieces that were later assembled by the gunman…?).

Yup. I work for this hospital system (an an RN) at another location and security is a joke. This incident happened at the main hospital, the super nice magnet location where they get things we will never have at our hospital. Admin came around to have a moment of silence for the victim. It was very sad but hopefully a sobering moment for admin. InsteAd of awarding themselves bonuses, let’s work on keeping frontline workers safe. Visitors bring in drugs all the time and can become violent. We need visitors screened and workers screened! The antivax movement has created a lot of hostility and doctors/nurses are routinely threatened on top of the violent or psychotic patients we’ve become accustomed to. No one should die at work

Indeed. Endocrinologist, head and neck surgeon, cardiologist, and Mohs specialist.

@Lbino88 may be at the one an ambulance would take me to. Frankford. There's several. Anytime myself or mom has been admitted to Torresdale or Frankford aside from downtown the RN's and LPN's have been stellar.

It is scarry. Maybe about a month ago a Doctor at Pennsy hospital withstood awful injuries in the ER.

Lbino88 is absolutely right. Nobody should die at work. Let alone those that care for us. I truly appreciate the Frontline workers.

Ya know where I wasn't screened? Last month getting tested for Covid outside main campus ER. Very, very well run. Fast, efficient. Any old body could have harmed those doing those tests.

Am also employed by Jefferson (not on the hospital side), and the internal communications sent to TJU/TJUH employees seemed, IMO, to be very…CYA [cover your a#%] in tone—frankly, they left a bad taste in my mouth. “Our preliminary investigation following the murder of Anrae James has identified that process deficiencies and human error played a part in delaying our emergency communications. Having said that, it is important to stress that the outcome would not have been different in this specific case. We are very fortunate that Monday’s incident did not result in more injuries.”

Note the “distancing language” of “process deficiencies…played a part”—not “deficiencies in our processes played a part…”

I also think the last sentence has a bizarrely cheerful tone, like the administration’s saying “On the bright side, at least more innocent employees weren’t killed!”

Having said that, it is important to stress that the outcome would not have been different in this specific case.

What? Do they have a crystal ball? Once he shot the victim/coworker maybe he could have felt empowered and decided to unload on other coworkers and patients.

Note: I get scans done in that outpatient. The one across from Walnut Street Theater. Yes I do ask before MRI's......what if's.it's. One being "What if someone miffed comes in here with a firearm? You getting me out?" Paranoid? Maybe, but too bad.
