Phillip Walters charged in death of missing Wyoming County woman

The search for a missing woman in Wyoming County has now turned into a homicide investigation.

The Wyoming County District Attorney, Jeffrey Mitchell says Phillip Walters of Mill City has been charged with homicide for the death of Haley Lorenzen who was last seen on Dec 30 at her home on Route 307 in Falls Township.

Even though Walters was charged with criminal homicide Wednesday night and jailed without bail, prosecutors say they have not yet located the body of Haley Lorenzen.

Uggghhh. Another one who chose murder over just breaking up with their significant other. Hope they find her remains soon. Poor woman.
This is just so sad, she had just moved to PA, had no credit cards, drivers license, or vehicle of her own and was living with this guy who had another girlfriend (that Haley probably didn't know about) The other girlfriend didn't want to be the "other" girlfriend so they conspired to kill her. Such a beautiful girl - what a tragic waste of life. Police Charge Mill City Man With Murder | www.rocket-courier.com | Rocket Courier

Few Answers in Search for Missing Homicide Victim
Not as much detail as the article GraceG posted.

It apparently takes 9 days to grow a conscience over something like that. Smh.

According to police, a first-floor apartment here along Route 307 in the Mill City area of Overfield Township is where Lorenzen was living with Walters. It was from this house that Walters told police Lorenzen went missing last month.

But nine days later, a woman came forward with a different story.

According to court papers, this woman says she is also in a relationship Walters and told him she no longer wanted to be "the other woman," and Walters talked about killing Lorenzen something she didn't take seriously.

This woman told police that on December 30, Walters told her he killed Lorenzen by choking her in bed and struck her in the head with a hammer. Then, she helped him tie rocks to her body and dump it in the Susquehanna River.

I wonder why they are not naming her. Immunity?
Yeah, I have to think there is some sort of deal. I don't think immunity but a limited sentence on charges like abuse of a corpse, obstruction, evidence tampering, failure to report a death. The big question is whether she really has any more involvement than what she alleges. She had obviously been talking to an attorney and had the attorney offer the information. She either got spooked by police showing up or she had more involvement and wanted to roll on him before he rolled on her.

I just hope they find her. It is possible that they didn't weigh her down enough and Haley could be quite a bit down stream along any of the banks or hung up on underwater debris.

I was thinking maybe waiting until they found Haley to charge? It would be awful to give her a deal and then find out that autopsy results mean she was more involved than she us portraying. MOO

The area up in Wyoming County and anywhere north and west is very rural and really Haley could have been somewhere that she wouldn't be found. Pennsylvania isn't big on going forward on no body cases and this could have turned into decades rather than a few weeks but whatever pressure on the unnamed other woman there was, it likely will lead to recovering Haley soon, and getting justice for her.

That no charges seem to have been filed at this point against the unnamed other woman suggests whatever the deal is, it is contingent on recovering Haley.

TUNKHANNOCK TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Crews were back on the water in Wyoming County searching for the body of a missing woman.

Boats were on the Susquehanna River in Tunkhannock Township on Saturday as crews looked for the body of Haley Lorenzen.

Lorenzen was reported missing late last year, and a woman came forward saying she helped Lorenzen's boyfriend dump her body in the river.

Search Continues for Body of Missing Woman

I'm just hearing about this and I'll pray for Haley and her loved ones.
I read the first article and it struck me that it could almost be the players in the Kelsey Berreth case.
Gave me chills. If you're following her case, Haleys story is well worth the read.
I hope they find both girls.

Hopefully the searchers are keeping track of any plastic shopping bags with rocks in them they find. According to the person that came forward via an attorney for a deal on her involvement they tied plastic bags with rocks in them to her body. If any of those bags are no longer attached then she could have floated away downstream. This would be potentially the case after a few days as the gases build up in the body and it becomes buoyant again and produces strain against the bags due to the river current pushing against the body.

Has anyone heard if the banks of the river were searched downstream of where they put her in the river? If she floated any distance at all she should be found at one of the debris locations along the river along the curves or islands.
