Wow, that guy is a sicko. I couldn't watch more than about 5 mins. Awful.

“It is improper for an off-duty trooper in plain clothes to seize an official document [involuntary mental health commitment] without authorization,” state police wrote in the affidavit. “In addition, Trooper Davis undertook this action after being told by a state police supervisor that on-duty members would handle the situation and that his assistance was not needed.”

Davis is charged with strangulation, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, simple assault, official oppression, and recklessly endangering another person. He does not have a prior criminal record in Pennsylvania.

Online court records show Davis was denied bail and is being held at Dauphin County Prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 2 in front of Magisterial District Judge Rebecca Margerum.

It’s very disturbing. He was enjoying himself, IMO. She wanted to break up with him so he did this. I think he loved being able to pin her against his body. So creepy.

And the way he kept saying, “No.” so calmly and flatly when she told him to get off her. He’s a creep. I hope he gets a lot of time.

I couldn't watch the entire video. His flat disengagement from her struggles was maddening (and triggering).

I'm glad he's in jail, but we all know he's going to get a slap on the wrist. Even if he loses his job, which seems likely (he's only suspended as of now, right?), he will just go somewhere else. I hope his wife leaves him. Though she's probably scared what he would do to her.

While he has a WIFE and KIDS at home, this was his girlfriend.

A spokesperson for the Pennsylvania State Police said Monday that Davis was suspended without pay after the charges were filed on Thursday.

Jay Nigrini, an attorney for Davis, said that he was troubled by Davis being denied bail and had filed a motion to get him released on bail.

The charging documents state that the text messages Davis used to secure the official documentation were part of a larger context that “revealed her frustration with Trooper Davis and his controlling behavior (and her desire to break off the relationship), not a true desire to harm herself.”

Glad his suspension is without pay.

I hope he’s fired, and I hope his wife sees the video and realizes that what he did to that girl he could do to her one day.

I'm concerned that his family have already been living with his coercive control. If so, they likely haven't reported anything. Filing domestic abuse charges against a police officer can be terrifying.

This reminds me of Officer Pratt, who used a police siren on his personal vehicle to stalk, harass, and threaten his exgirlfriend. Then he got promoted.
“I would have been digging a grave, and you would have been in it.”

I’m sure his wife has already seen this side of him many times. Gives her “reason” to start anew. Girlfriend is lucky she got out when she did.

This also ****** me off on the mental health side. As a parent who struggled to find help for her young adult daughter with autism, the mental health system in Pennsylvania is broken. The fact that this guy misused mental health resources when so many actually need help further proves what a 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬 he is.

Another thing very infuriating about this is that the State Police KNEW this was improper right from the start but didn't stop it. It still took this woman 5 days to get out. This is unacceptable! There are more people here that dropped the ball and let this nightmare happen.

This whole thing is very disturbing. Nationwide, we are looking at these kinds of emergency mental health holds to help curb violence, to get firearms from people, etc. Then we see it horribly abused AND how the process failed to catch the abuse of the process even though it was clear. This could have real repercussions moving forward.

A Pennsylvania state trooper was caught on camera appearing to physically assault his ex-girlfriend after he allegedly abused his power to have her involuntarily committed to a hospital.

Ronald Davis, 37, is accused of having improperly obtained a warrant to have the woman committed without divulging his connection to her, according to the criminal complaint and a probable cause affidavit provided by the Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office.

While he was carrying out the order himself, he asked another person to record him as he appeared to strangle her and restrain her. During the 12½-minute video, released by the DA’s office, she repeatedly says, “I can’t breathe.”

Davis, who has been a trooper since 2015, has been suspended without pay, in accordance with state law, and he has been charged with felony strangulation, unlawful restraint, false imprisonment, simple assault and official oppression.

The woman wound up being held at Lehigh Valley Hospital for four days, until her release Aug. 25. “The video and text communications with Davis show that [the victim] was rational and the involuntary commitment was improper,” the DA’s office said in the news release.

A judge ordered Davis held without bail in Dauphin County Prison at his preliminary arraignment last week, the DA’s office said. A preliminary hearing has been set for Monday.

It was not immediately clear how much jail time Davis could face if he is convicted or whether he has a lawyer who could speak on his behalf. A spokesperson for the DA’s office could not immediately be reached for comment.

Davis is married and lives with his family in Dauphin County, the DA’s office said. He did not respond to emails seeking comment.
