"STATE COLLEGE -- A Penn State student was bludgeoned and killed and his 28-year-old acquaintance was charged with murder after going to police and telling them that "I think there may be a body in my kitchen."
Andrew Rogers, 28, was arraigned without bail Tuesday afternoon on first- and third-degree murder charges after State College police found a body Monday night in the midst of what District Attorney Michael Madeira called "a horrific scene" in Rogers' home at 224 Nimitz Ave., just off South Pugh Street."
"At Rogers' bail hearing Tuesday before Judge Bradley P. Lunsford, Madeira cited the "apparent ferociousness of the act and the admission of the defendant." Madeira said the victim had been struck by "at least a half dozen blows to the face and body" with a wooden rolling pin, "at least twice" with a beer bottle and "close to a dozen times" with a wooden baseball bat.
These blows felled the victim on Thursday, five days before Rogers walked into the Uniontown Police Department in southwestern Pennsylvania and said he wanted to talk to someone. He ended up under arrest after writing a statement and describing a violent fight in his State College home, according to court papers."
