Nearly 31 years later, the final moments of Peggy Sue Hogue’s life remain a mystery. Debbie Hogue said the young woman had gone to the now-closed Park Gate Grill, which straddled the Beaver-Lawrence county line in Wayne and North Sewickley townships.

She reportedly left the bar at about 5 a.m. Sunday and was last seen walking toward her home -- which would have required going through Ellwood City. Chuck Hall, a friend of the Hogue family who remembers the tavern well, said it was cited regularly for staying open after hours.

Debbie said her niece was sexually assaulted. Had her murder taken place a few years later, DNA evidence might have enabled police to find her killer. But by the time investigators arrived at the location where her body was found, the crime scene had likely been compromised, with the possibility that crucial evidence was destroyed.
