Wow. Ok, so the TH on HLN were right that there would surely be another "surprise" today. I am not surprised by the motions for mistrial and motion for withdrawing (par for the case), but I am surprised they said they will call NO witnesses for JA!
I figured they could drag SOMEONE in there that wasn't (in legal trouble - watching my words so I don't get a TO).
Nurmi is acting like a big baby. I didn't get my way so I don't wanna play anymore. Of course, this is all in preparation for the future appeals.
I could NEVER be a defense attorney!

Holy cow, that was insane! DT is acting like toddlers, and I hope it bites THEM in the butt very soon.

Nurmi, from my count this morning, you had one witness. The young lady decided not to testify. So that left DB, who didn't want his face shown during the trial... that's all you had! Why, why, why isn't the murderer's mother testifying for her daughter?? Does not pass the smell test at all.

This is not so that the DT can get an appeal. Appeal happens regardless. DT has to protect themselves from habeas based in ineffective assistance of counsel. Habeas and Appeal are entirely different things.

As if they won't both be remembered until the end of time for thier ....hmmmm....participation in this trial.

What a WILD RIDE this has been...I just feel for the family right now. So many thoughts this must bring for them. I mean, are they now worried about appeals, retrials, going through this again? And if the state says forget it, she walks?

I just can't imagine how this is for them!

The fact that the defense is unwilling to call a single member of Jodi's family to serve as a mitigation witness SPEAKS VOLUMES. While it's likely that Jodi didn't want her family on the stand (for a whole host of reasons), relying on an ex-BF that she dumped when she set her sights on Travis and a troubled friend with her own potential legal problems feels like a set up to me. I think Nurmi and Willmott are genuinely frustrated, but it's hard to take them seriously about Ms. Arias not receiving a fair trial when she has a stooge tweeting for her and gives a pre-arranged media interview 20 minutes after she is convicted of first-degree murder. Frankly, the only thing that would have possibly saved JA from the DP would have been ongoing genuine remorse and accepting responsibility for her actions. They didn't see any of that because Jodi isn't capable of GENUINE anything and she certainly has no plans to acknowledge her guilt.

Nurmi has been trying to intimidate the judge for MONTHS!

I don't think it is intimidation. He is justified in ASKING for the motions but he can not control the findings. The Judge has protected the proceedings well. People have not liked her speed or her leeway but she has made it very difficult for them to claim bias or anything else. She has given them most of what they asked for.

This today was Nurmi Grandstanding. HE wants it on tape that he stood up and objected. So while he did not want the trial televised, He used it today..

Jodi has every right to stand up and and say I have witnesses I want to to talk.. But she is in this process now. She knows what is going on.

I was watching CKJA intently while withdrawal request theatrics were happening, she didn't react at all. She must have known it was planned strategy.

First of all, I mean WOW.

Either Jodi will make a statement. She won't be taking the stand and be subject to questioning. No witnesses will be called. But it looks like her attorneys might be advising Jodi to not even make a statement (bad idea in my opinion unless of course Jodi is fixing to do more of the same and blame Travis and everyone else). If she doesn't make a statement then they move on to closing statements then the jury gets to deliberate.

It's possible the DT believes by not calling witnesses at all will make for a better appellate issue.

what is "reversable error???"

is that another way of saying....you are granted an appeal?

A reversible error is when the Judge makes a mistake in a ruling during the trial. That means that the case is sent back for a new trial b/c the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court uphold that there was an error.

An Appeal will happen regardless. It is guaranteed in a capital murder conviction. That does not mean that any reversible error will be found, ie. it does not guarantee that the case will be sent back for trial. Most appeals are denied.

this needs to be OVER. It should already be OVER. Ridiculous drama over mitigation witnesses. They can't find any that aren't felons or something? Whose fault is that? They had to get a court appointed atty for Patti FGS. Ridiculous. This judge has bent over backwards for this DT and now they're pissed and want to just quit whether they're actually allowed to or not...

I have to say I love the way JSS straight out told Nurmi his motions were denied. Goooo JSS!
