SDSO has not returned Rebecca's property to her family.

"There was evidence of a struggle. There was blood on the body. There was a bruise on the body and a chair was overturned," said family attorney Marty Rudoy.

Rudoy told News 8 that the San Diego County Sheriff still has not returned some of Zahau's personal belongs to the family, like her camera, computer or cell phone. He said the Sheriff did make the cell phone available for an independent forensic inspection by an expert hired by the family. That forensic report still is not complete, Rudoy said.

The Coronado mansion currently is undergoing a massive remodel, which includes a new swimming pool dug into the backyard where Zahau's body was found.

Zahau Family Makes Final Push For Mansion Probe

12/29/2011

Rudoy and his team want to conduct an investigation inside the mansion before the new owners go forward with any remodeling. Rudoy said he believes key evidence remains inside the home.

"You know, it's very surprising to us and disappointing at the same time," said Rudoy. "Nobody is curious about what happened to Rebecca, and that in itself is curious."

Last week, Shacknai's attorney said the family would not be allowed inside the home unless sheriff's investigators accompanied them.

However, the sheriff's department said they would not comply without new evidence.
Rudoy told 10News he believes the sheriff's department has been cooperative in other areas. He said he will meet with sheriff's investigators in two weeks and hopes he can convince them to enter the home together before it's too late.

Shacknai Allows Zahau Family To Conduct Mansion Investigation

Posted: 12/14/2011

As of Tuesday, the Zahau family was waiting to hear whether the sheriff's department will supervise the forensic testing.

On Tuesday evening, sheriff's department spokeswoman Jan Caldwell told 10News via email: "Our investigation is concluded and the family has the entire file -- to include scene photos. The house has left our control (months ago) and many, many people have walked through -- there's nothing there."
A Zahau family attorney said as of Wednesday, he was still waiting to hear from the sheriff's department regarding the possibility of supervising the testing at the mansion.
He told 10News the family is optimistic that things will work in their favor.

In response, Caldwell told 10News on Wednesday: "We are not denying the Zahau family access. We don't have that authority -- the house is still owned by Jonah Shacknai. We are simply not going to accompany anyone through the property."

Update: Zahau Attorney Submits New Files to Investigators

April 9, 2012

“In the Rebecca Zahau case, submissions have been made to the AG and DA. On behalf of her family, thank you for your support,” the post read.

Bremner responded to follow-up questions via text message, saying that the attorney general will not review the case until the District Attorney also has been consulted.

“The AG won't act until we have gone to the DA first,” she wrote.

Zahau died in July at the Spreckels mansion. Homicide investigators determined seven weeks later that she had committed suicide, though her body was found nude, bound hand and foot, with a T-shirt pushed around her neck.

Attorney requests new probe of Coronado hanging

May 29, 2012

CORONADO — The attorney for the family of Rebecca Zahau has submitted a detailed request to the state Attorney General’s Office asking for an independent investigation into her hanging death at her boyfriend’s Coronado mansion last summer.

Seattle-based attorney Anne Bremner said the Sheriff’s Department and District Attorney’s Office have turned down similar requests she submitted, paving the way for the official request to the attorney general.

Attorney: Zahau Death Might Not Be Suicide

New details may re-open the case

Sep 22, 2011

"Just because it's possible that someone committed suicide, doesn't mean that the case should be closed, Bremner said. "We know there were clumps of hair that they found, there were gloves found at the scene, I always suggested that if there is a killer that he used gloves and that's why they didn't leave their DNA and fingerprints."

Bremner also points out that the doors are closed on the balcony where Zahau was found hanging. "Did she turn around and close the doors before she hung herself off the side?"

And what about the voicemail message that investigators say Zahau listened to on her cellphone at 12:50 that morning, just hours before her body was discovered.

Bremner says detectives told family members the call originally came in at 12:30 and it was from Jonah Shacknai, informing Zahau that his six year old son Max was in grave condition.

Investigators believe the guilt of Max's impending death pushed Zahau to kill herself. But Bremner says Zahau's phone records tell a different story.

"They're talking about a message that was erased, and her phone records don't indicate any incoming call prior to her demise."

Bremner also says she found a neighbor who heard a woman screaming from the mansion at 11:30, more than an hour before investigators believe Zahau checked her voicemail.

Medicis CEO Shacknai's Contract Put Kids Ahead of Company | 8-12-2011

The likelihood of Valeant's (VRX) proposed takeover of Medicis (MRX) looks a whole lot different once you've read Medicis CEO Jonah Shacknai's employment agreement. It requires that he work only four days per week, that he be allowed to work from home, that charity functions be considered part of his work, and that he "may not be available for corporate matters during such times that he is providing care for his children

Extreme flextime in troubled times at Medicis… | 8-11-2011

Sometimes, we run into something really unusual in the filings. Periodically, filings intersect with current events far from the usual realm of corporate and financial headlines. And then there those rare occasions that we get both in the same document. That’s what we found tacked on to the end of the 10-Q that Medicis Pharmaceutical (MRX) filed at a few minutes before 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
