I personally think it's more thoughtful to give a stray puppy from Mexico a home and save it from a life of starvation, torture and early death, than to adopt a well-fed puppy in Toronto. Even if he didn't get the rabies certificate before he left. I also thought it was nice when the Olympians were bringing the stray dogs from Russia for adoption in the U.S. Maybe it's my habit of seeing the glass as half full rather than half empty.

So if DM had imported rabies (a highly contagious disease for which there is no sure cure) into the US and Canada that's a thoughtful act? Rabies can kill. How short-sighted and self-centred of DM to bring that puppy into the country without the proper shots and paperwork.
Personally, when the Commonwealth Games were in India a few years back I could not understand why athletes were not bringing home stray citizens that face a life of starvation, torture and early death.
I guess WM isn't alone in "believ[ing] animal welfare was a humanitarian effort" http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/thestar/obituary.aspx?pid=161695472#sthash.S9mo04hD.dpuf
Some people like animals better than people (in part because they can't get along with people).
Would not be surprised if DM showed up in a "Save the seals, kill people" tee shirt at trial.
