2 Taxi cab drivers, one body missing one confirmed murder, my thinking is these are both connected, with approximately 60 miles between each incident and only months apart,it can’t be coincidental can it?

Richard Humphrey’s
The 51-year-old taxi driver vanished on 3 February and his Ford Sierra was found abandoned with bloodstains inside it in a car park at Heathrow Airport (some miles from Whyteleafe, the Surrey village where his home was) on 12 February. A forensic re-examination of the car in 2012 did not give detectives the breakthrough they were hoping for.

Leonard Gomm
Mr Gomm, 75, was a taxicab driver found stabbed to death in Hampton Gay, near Kidlington in Oxfordshire, at 10:50 am on 13 June 1990. His Ford Granada taxi was found five yards away. Mr Gomm had radioed his employers four hours earlier (at about 6:35 am), telling them he was taking a passenger to Bicester. Police believe he picked up the fare from Gloucester Green, Oxford. Two witnesses saw the victim driving his taxi with a passenger at around that time. No money or valuables were taken from Mr Gomm or his taxi, making the motive for his murder a mystery. On the 20th anniversary of the murder, Thames Valley Police reported the uncovering of new forensic evidence which could shed light on the motive.

''Leonard ‘Lennie’ Gomm’s taxi was discovered in a country lane near Bletchingdon four hours after he set off to pick up a fare in June 1990.

The 75-year-old had been stabbed through the heart and the dad-of-three’s body was found just yards from his blue Ford Granada cab.

Two decades on from the murder, police appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

Det Supt Barry Halliday told reporters that the motive for the killing was still unclear. “Robbery has not been completely ruled out, but there could be other reasons,” he said.

A further appeal for information was made in 2020, three decades on from the murder.

By then, head of the cold cases department at Thames Valley Police Peter Beirne said there was ‘no evidence’ to suggest he was robbed. ''

“Since the murder we have continued to work on the case, and using advancements in forensic science, have developed evidence, that could link the offender to the attack,” he said.

“There will be people who have information or suspicions about Lennie’s murder, and I am urging them to make contact with the police.

“You might know someone who acts strangely when Lennie’s murder is mentioned on the TV or radio, or perhaps you know someone who has an obsession with the case.”

''Richard Humphreys, Whyteleafe, 1990

Richard Humphreys went missing from his home in Westview Avenue, Whyteleafe on February 3 1990. Like Andrew Elphick, he has never been seen since.

The only trace of him that could be found was his Ford Sierra, which was found on February 12 in the long-stay car park at Heathrow's Terminal 4. The car's interior was stained with blood.

The 51-year-old taxi driver and father of one had renewed his weekly contract with Purley Cars on the day of his disappearance and his passport was later found at his home.

His body has never been found and nobody was every charged in connection with the case, despite a police review in 2012 involving a re-examination of Mr Humphreys' car using the latest forensic techniques.''
