Ukraine requests help to protect nuclear power plants

The United Nations Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has received a request from Ukraine's Nuclear Power Authority to "provide immediate assistance in coordinating activities related to the safety of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and other nuclear facilities," CNN reports.

- The request came when Russia informed the IAEA that their forces have taken control of the territory around Ukraine's nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia, says Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi on Tuesday.

Videos published on social media, verified by CNN on Wednesday, show how employees at the nuclear power plant are blocking access roads to the plant, which is one of the largest nuclear power plants in Europe.”

More than 100 Canadian business leaders vow to sell off Russian investments — and call on other investors to do the same | The Star
''As Russian tanks rolling through Ukrainian cities meet fierce local resistance, some of Canada’s top business leaders are fighting the invasion another way — by pulling their money out of Russia.

More than 100 of Canada’s top business leaders and investment managers have signed a letter vowing to sell off all of their Russian investments, and are calling on others investors to do the same''

''In an interview, Seif said business leaders have a moral obligation to push back against Russia’s invasion, and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“As individuals we have to take a stand against this, and we have to fight as best as we can on behalf of the Ukrainian people. They are fighting and defending their home and their freedom, and we have to do our job. If we’re not going to have people there, we have to fight with every other power we can,” said Seif, whose fund management company has already sold off stock it held in Russian companies.''

And he already has Chernobyl...he could provoke a really serious nuclear disaster...apart from using nuclear weapons. Off course Russia and Belarus would be in danger also.....but as is seems...Putin doesn't give a damn as long he can retire in his palace. All alone I guess....how sad.

I understand, but there are a lot of Ukrainian civilians, taking up weapons, who are never trained for it.

That's probably true, but I believe there may have been many during the American Revolution who were not trained for it, but we won anyway.

Sometimes heart and integrity, true grit, mean more than training. MOO

Yes...determination, motivation is a much bigger thing then training IMO. I don't know if you followed the discussion. <modsnip>....It was about volunteers with guts and desire wanted to join the fights in Ukraine against Russia, but maybe didn't have a military background to really help.

Putin's Russia claims to take Ukraine's first entire city

The port city of Kherson in Ukraine has been completely occupied by Russian troops, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. Kherson is the first major regional capital to be completely occupied by the Russians during their attack on the neighboring country that began Thursday. If the claim is correct, of course.

Kherson is a city of 285,000 inhabitants and is located on the Dnieper River, near the Black Sea.

The Ukrainian governor of Kherson stated this morning that the city is completely surrounded and did not speak about the capture of the city. Earlier, the municipality had made announcements that Russian troops had captured the port and the station during fierce fighting that left dozens dead.

''According to TIME magazine, most children have been evacuated from Okhmatdyt, but those with life-threatening illness must stay, for now. Several are on life support, or need long chemotherapy sessions for their cancer.

“The saddest thing is that when the siren sounds, we have to go down with the children and parents to the basement,” surgeon Vitaly Demidov told the publication.''
