'Just something to think about...

So many of our everyday products could be affected by sanctions, restrictions, oligarch-partnered companies. One example is International Paper (who has been doing business in Russia and China for many years) involving wealthy Zakhar Smushkin (Ilim Group). How many US companies purchase paper/pulp products from International Paper and their subsidiaries (like Hammermill)? Where do we and our offices, schools, hospitals, restaurants obtain our printer paper, disposable cups, napkins, diapers, etc? I don't the answer but this is just another example of how Putin is affecting everyone's lives to a degree. However, this is absolutely nothing (to say the least) compared to the price Ukrainians are paying... as Putin is horrifically taking their lives.

Ok bringing in hazmat suits for whom? All the Russians in Ukraine? That's a LOT of suits. Or just for the officers and the conscripted soldiers will also perish and who cares?
Is the world really going to just sit by and watch the steps unfold for that to happen?

<modsnip: No link to info stated as fact>
I was referencing information from the link in the post that I replied to...

"According to the official, as much as one-fifth of the Russian force is currently "inoperable," meaning they are either dead, wounded or do not have the support or equipment needed to continue."

I have had the same concerns about a significant attack this weekend. This especially after reading the convoy has dispersed. :(

Russian military convoy near Kyiv ‘dispersed, redeployed’
And dispersing into forested areas, some with Howitzer cannon. Putin et al just seems to want to blow everything up, IMO. Such an evil being.

"Some of the vehicles have moved into forests, Maxar reported. Near Lubyanka, a town near the Antonov Airport towed howitzers and other artillery were seen set up in firing positions in a patch of forest. Rocket launchers were spotted near Ivankiv, where the back of the convoy had been."

From this report, Putin is doing some "housecleaning" in his Intelligence and Military units

Putin places head of the FSB's foreign intelligence branch under house arrest | Daily Mail Online

One Intelligence leader and two military leaders sacked.

One can only conclude that he sees that he has to punish someone for the failures in his Ukrainian plans, to deflect from his own failures.

Again, the Chinese officials must be making significant note of the multiple mistakes in his plan
Maybe they didnt want to go along with what he has planned?

When Hitler annexed Austria WWII began, even though there was no shooting because the soon-to-be Allies appeased and rationalized and did nothing.
When Hitler took over the Sudetenland it was the same.
Not until 1939 did the shooting start.
Just my opinion, WWIII has already begun. Putin’s goal is his fantasy of a new Russian/USSR empire. There are only two ways to stop him 1) the Russian people rebel or 2) the West militarily puts a stop to it, a scary thought for sure.

“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.”

IMO what started WWII was the Nazi-Soviet pact, which secretly allocated eastern Europe between them, and led to the invasion of Poland, which the UK had promised to defend.

The Soviets soon annexed what is now Ukraine and Belarus.

Then the Nazis betrayed the pact and invaded the Soviet Union, as that was the territory Hitler really wanted, intending to exterminate not just communism, but ethnic slavic peoples.

The Soviets stopped the German advance and exhausted Germany's resources, at the cost of millions of lives.

One could say it was Stalin who caused WWII, by refusing to join with the west in diplomatic solidarity against Germany, that would have prevented Hitler from invading Poland.

Stalin's Role in the Second World War | Warzone | Yesterday Channel.

"Josef Stalin freed Hitler from his fear of the possibility of a war on two fronts by signing a pact of non-aggression with Germany. As a result, a month later, Hitler invaded Poland and precipitated the Second World War."

I believe they were told to scatter due to the Ukrainians picking off a formation of tanks the day before. I do, in a way, feel bad for the Russian people because many were protesting the war in Russia and were arrested and brutalized for their stance. And Putin's propaganda gaslighting machine is at work telling Russians that Ukraine bombed its own hospitals and showing Russian trucks handing out bread to Ukraine people.
And I admire President Zelensky and his wife. I'm sure that if the war is stopped in talks, Ukraine will have to make concessions to prevent embarrassment to Putin. So per usual, we won't get the whole truth. But this murderous bloodshed needs to be halted. MOO

Online detectives discover the identity of Russian soldiers

"Profile can be found in minutes Bright also tried the tactic. With a free trial of the Russian software FindClone, we were able to find the profile of a Russian soldier captured by Ukraine in 2014 on VKontakte in a few minutes. That is a popular social media website in Russia."

" The technology does not yet work perfectly, which means that some people may be misidentified."

Russia Is Now Claiming the US Trained Birds to Deliver Ukrainian Bioweapons

The Kremlin’s efforts to convince its citizens that Ukraine is the real aggressor are becoming increasingly desperate.

Two weeks after Russia invaded Ukraine, the general consensus appears to be that the Kremlin has lost the information war.

That call is likely very premature at best, but it’s clear the Russian government’s efforts to convince its own citizens that Ukraine is the aggressor, and that the Kremlin is justified in bombing a sovereign nation, are becoming increasingly desperate.

For example, the Kremlin’s latest claim is that the U.S. has trained an army of migratory birds to carry bioweapons developed by the Ukrainian army, and that said birds are preparing to fly into Russia and deploy those bioweapons.

This message wasn’t seeded on some fringe message board by a conspiracy theory-addled extremist: It was boosted by Major General Igor Konashenkov, the chief spokesman for the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, who was speaking on camera Thursday about this outrageous (and entirely fictional) plot.

There’s no point really engaging in this delusion, but, for the record, birds cannot be trained to attack targets in Russia, or anywhere else, with bioweapons.

Pigeons were famously used in both World Wars for sending communications and there was also Project Pigeon, a U.S. Army experiment in which pigeons were trained to sit inside missiles in an attempt to guide the weapons to their targets. It never worked.

(...)

He claimed that the U.S. was researching how to use birds, bats, and reptiles as vectors for spreading deadly diseases such as anthrax and African swine fever.

(...)

The documents released Thursday contain nothing to back up the claims Konashenkov made, yet they’re already being shared widely on far-right and conspiracy channels on the encrypted messaging platform Telegram as further “proof” that Putin’s actions are justified. The documents have been posted in groups supporting the trucker convoys as well as numerous QAnon-linked channels.

And this is exactly what the Kremlin wants.

(...)

(To be strictly accurate I don't think the Russians ever claimed the birds would be 'trained', more that migratory birds would be infected and used. Still silly nonetheless)

UPDATE 1-Russian economy in 'shock' from unprecedented economic war - Kremlin

The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russia's economy was experiencing a shock and that measures were being taken to soften the impact of what it described as an "absolutely unprecedented" economic war being waged against Moscow.

The West has imposed sweeping sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

"Our economy is experiencing a shock impact now and there are negative consequences, they will be minimised," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on a conference call.

He described the situation as turbulent, but said that measures to calm and stabilise it were already being taken.

"This is absolutely unprecedented. The economic war that has started against our country has never taken place before. So it is very hard to forecast anything."

Ok I'm a birder and...

Did they steer the wheel with their feet?

Beaks, I reckon. That’s why it didn’t work - every time they coo’d the steering went awry.
