Horrifying.

I saw a Ukrainian female doctor on an Aussie current affairs show tonight (on Zoom). She is a reservist in Ukraine, and is about to leave her children and go to fight. She said they have been training every weekend.

The presenter asked her who was going to take care of her children. She said she hoped her eldest son could, but he may have to go and fight also.

The presenter asked her how long they would fight against the superior power of Putin. She said "till the end".

Well, we’re going to be here a while. Plant a seat. Sending good vibes all round.

Eta:

“Russian troops launched their anticipated attack on Ukraine on Thursday, as President Vladimir Putin cast aside international condemnation and sanctions, warning other countries that any attempt to interfere would lead to “consequences you have never seen.”” / source

Good to see the thread about it here.
It’s truly awful what is happening in Ukraine right now. It was pending for a while but I hoped that Putin will back off.
I have a few friends from Ukraine who are living and working here( Sweden) and are terrified for their families back home.
Putin has to be brought to justice for war crimes he has done, enough is enough. As of now I hope that people in Ukraine will stay strong.

The outcome of this is so uncertain. Yes we will stay here for a while unfortunately.

This is so scary. He's threatening to drop nuclear bombs, basically.:(

A dark day for Europe, a black day for Ukraine. Also a very dangerous situation for the peace in general, that might escalate further. Where is this criminal going to stop. He doesn't seem very impressed by all harsh words from European governments and the consequences this is going to have also for the Russian people.

Exactly

Jmo Sadly, these folks (can/do/may/ will /continue to cyberattack medical facilities, power grids, government websites...the list goes on.

Sad P chose to kill people with direct military attacks, the world gave him every chance at peace and diplomacy imo, how long everyone’s been say8g the same thing, yet he chose to attack and kill people and start a war - there’s no going back from that.

Ukraine is not a member, so things will have to be worked out differently.

just horrible seeing the poor country in an impossible situation

and i just hate Russia and its whole " don't join NATO and we'll stop attacking" its just straight from the bullying hand book

why does another country get to decide anything for its neighbor its just arrogance

Thanks for starting a thread, Mags. It’s just dreadful :(

Here’s a quick 101 on why this is all happening:

Why is Russia invading Ukraine and what does Putin want?
Bookmarking, thanks Cags.

Exactly, where is the end point. It feels like we’ve passed a point of no return.

Potential future/continued cyber attacks are a big part of this equation too, imo.

A big question for us in Europe, even us on the outskirts in the UK, is about the gas flow. It would punish Europe as much as Russia if the gas flows were cut or totally stopped.

PS I'm not trying to ignore the human horrors of this, just saying about the damage that Putin can cause on a wide scale.

Thankfully Japan has been poised/ready to help.
