Russia arrests top cybersecurity executive in treason case
''MOSCOW, Sept 29 (Reuters) - Russian authorities have arrested the chief executive of a leading Russian cybersecurity company on suspicion of state treason, a court said on Wednesday, sending a chill through Russia's IT and business sectors.

Ilya Sachkov, 35, who founded Group IB, one of Russia's most prominent cyber security firms, was arrested on Tuesday, the RTVI TV channel reported as law enforcement officers carried out searches at the Moscow offices of the firm.

State news agency TASS cited an unnamed security source as saying Sachkov was accused of working with unspecified foreign intelligence services and of treason that hurt Russia's national interests. He denied both allegations, it said.''

Russia Arrests One Of Its Biggest Cyber Stars On Treason Charges
''Forbes Russia reported that Group-IB CEO Ilya Sachkov, 35, will be detained for at least two months and could be imprisoned for 20 years, if found guilty. Group-IB’s Moscow offices were also raided on Tuesday, though little more is known about why Sachkov has been accused of treason. The TASS news agency in Russia reported he was accused of sharing classified data with foreign intelligence and had denied the charges.''

''His company, which gathers information on cybersecurity threats to help clients focus their resources, recently shifted its headquarters to Singapore, as Group-IB sought to expand far beyond Russia. It had already claimed some major customers away from home, one of its most prominent being Barclays bank.''

''It’s also been a major partner for international policing agency Interpol, assisting on numerous global investigations of cybercriminals.''

On 26 July 2023 Ilya Sachkov was sentenced to 14 years in prison for high treasion by a Russian court.
