It was a woman and her four kids. She has a fifth kid in college. When Simmons was arrested he told the deputies to tell Mr. Gene he was sorry.
Gene is the brother in law. No words for the sister or the woman's son who was in college. Youngest kid was 6.

Simmons' erratic behavior, coupled with a diagnosis of dementia, led Circuit Judge Kristi Harrington to determine that he is mentally unfit to stand trial in the killings of his wife and her four children in 2006.

The decision sparked angry reactions from relatives of the victims, who are convinced that Simmons is putting on a show to escape prison time for shooting to death 39-year-old Detra Rainey and her children, ages 6 to 16, inside their North Charleston mobile home...

The judge's ruling paves the way for Simmons, 43, to be confined indefinitely in a secure state mental hospital... Solicitor Bruce Durant said prosecutors remain skeptical, particularly since Simmons' dementia set in after his arrest.
