Yes -- let's hope that he was too busy GTH out of SC. Maybe he never had a chance. What she went through at her home and alone with him in the car is enuff horror for a 4 year old -- for the rest of her life. SMH.

But, she is alive and back home by now, so there is that, thank goodness.

unfortunately he was charged with just that :(

I wonder if he will plead insanity. He has confessed so I am wondering how he will spin this. I want to vomit.

“Affidavits filed in the case indicate Evans confessed to investigators after his arrest”

Insanity pleas are very difficult to pull off. It must be shown that the offender does not know the difference between right & wrong. A few states do not even allow an insanity defense. SC does allow it, and it uses the M'Naghten Rule. If Evans was unaware that what he did was wrong, why did he get away from the scene as fast as he could? Why did he hide?

Criminal defendants who are found to be legally insane cannot be convicted of charges arising from that particular mental defect or disability.

Overview

The M'Naghten Rule (or test) focuses on whether a criminal defendant knew the nature of the crime or understood right from wrong at the time it was committed. The defendant must meet one of the two distinct criteria. Some courts differ as to whether the "wrong" in question refers to moral or legal wrong (or both). Additionally, some states have eliminated the first part of the test in which a defendant is ruled legally insane for not fully understanding what he or she has done.

The rule, established by the English House of Lords in the mid-19th Century, states:

"Every man is to be presumed to be sane, and ... that to establish a defense on the ground of insanity, it must be clearly proved that, at the time of the committing of the act, the party accused was laboring under such a defect of reason, from disease of mind, and not to know the nature and quality of the act he was doing; or if he did know it, that he did not know he was doing what was wrong."

Thomas Evans pleads guilty to kidnapping 4-year-old Johns Island girl

Evans appeared before a federal judge Tuesday morning in Charleston County, where he pleaded guilty to kidnapping, transportation of a minor to engage in sexual activity and aggravated sexual abuse of a minor.

Evans had previously pleaded not guilty. He now will be sentenced at a later date, and faces 30 years to life in prison for his crimes.

I posted on Sharon's thread but I think this is the first we learn of what happened with Sharon Hayden at the time of her disappearance.
Johns Island kidnapping suspect pleads guilty, told investigators victim's family seemed 'perfect'

Evans also told investigators he had a fight with his girlfriend Sharon Nanette Hayden and told investigators he stabbed her. Evans chased her into the woods near her Spartanburg home where he believed she died and left her there. However he could not tell investigators where Hayden's body is located.

That's good that there won't have to be a trial. It's not like there was any doubt as to the person responsible.

What about his crimes against HT's mother? Had he already pled guilty to those?

Is anyone even bothering to look for Sharon's body?
That isn't clear at all. I don't understand it. There is a virtual news blackout on it. No followup story that I could find about her. She deserves to be found. He isn't going to give up where Sharon is since she is evidence of yet another crime.

If the media would get on her story and get information from law enforcement to get some idea of their whereabouts prior to her disappearance people like us could try to work on where she could be.

“The trio of railroad workers observed a vehicle near the tracks with a man and girl sleeping inside and alerted authorities.

The call lead directly to the return of the little girl to authorities.”

This continues to bring me to tears just thinking about it. I I think those men have found -od and the angels knowing they are the ones that are responsible for finding her and saving her.

I think it will make a drastic change in their lives. I just find this entire story of how the men did such so moving and I will never forget it for the rest of my life. And I can't fathom how the men that found her were impressed by the blessing that they were there at that time and did what they did.

Moo

One of the very moving moments on this forum that is very enlightening and touches the heart.

CHARLESTON SC: Convicted kidnapper says he killed woman; no body found yet

During his guilty plea in September to kidnapping a 4-year-old girl, a South Carolina prosecutor said Thomas Evans told the FBI he stabbed his girlfriend days before and left her to die.
Not that anyone here is surprised by this news. I pray that he tells them where he stabbed her and left her to die, so they can find her body. Poor woman. Ugh, so many victims in this case alone- heartbreaking!
