Under Arizona law, while Arias' murder conviction stands, prosecutors have the option of pursuing another penalty phase with a new jury in an effort to get a death sentence. If the second jury fails to reach a verdict, the death penalty would be removed as an option, and the judge would sentence Arias to either spend her entire life behind bars or be eligible for release after 25 years.

Jurors with preconceived notions about the appropriate sentence will be excused," Stephens wrote.

BBM When I first read that word, I thought it said "executed":scared:

:floorlaugh:

The Judge has spoken :judge: (but the jurors could lie?? like Mr. Foreman- maybe not- must be positive).

For all the inquiring minds out there:

My mother is Southern so I grew up saying you all. I also worked in Chapel Hill for several years and apparently came back up here with a southern accent for awhile.
Here in Delaware, we have a flat Mid Atlantic accent. We do not sound like Philly or Jersey or NY. The further south you go in Delaware, you may hear a more southern twang. We tend to speak nasally and fast. We are not as polite as the folks down south and generally more impatient than Southerners. My mother has a fit with my "bad language". So I am a cross between North and South. Simply Perfect! :floorlaugh:

:floorlaugh:
I think Southern accents are elegant and sound soothing to me.

I found these YTubes that will explain "How to speak Southern" :floorlaugh:

I'm very interested in accents in the USA. I have a very heavy accent from The Bronx. I always sound "stupid" :scared:  Accents are very different in NYC- depends on where you live in the 5 boroughs.

Is that really a possibility? I thought parole was out of the question. :scared::scared:

I don't know. That is why I posted that sentence. I thought AZ lawyer discussed this. I maybe wrong but I thought AZ did away with that.

Oh My these were fabulous! it bought back so many memories of my grandparents and Southern relatives. "Yonder, do-hickey, fixin to,hankering, on a tear" I still use. "Mash" (the elevator button)was something I had to get used to as I had no clue what it meant at first when I worked in NC. I have never called a shopping cart a buggy. I still say "Crank up the car" which my grandparents and mother have said.

When I lived in Switzerland, my English speaking friends (non USA) asked me if my mother was British because of her southern accent.

The 5 Borough accent video was great. I speak more liKe I am from Manhattan except slower. LOL. :seeya:

This was bothering me, so I had to look it up :findinglink: :sheesh:

I found this:

"In Arizona, first degree murder is punishable by either the death penalty, life without parole, or life with parole. Parole, if granted, is only possible after a minimum of 25 years served, or 35 years in the case of the killing of an individual 15 years old or younger (including the unborn)..."

So if the next jury is hung again, Judge JSS has what on the table?? No DP- that I remember. Only LWOP?
I know we :deadhorse: before, but I forget. :scared:
I'm hoping for LWOP. Didn't Juan say at the closing that this could be changed later on, somehow??
Let her rot in prison with just her "wonderful" self (no tweets, blogs, outside "bookclubs", etc. please). Bless her heart :floorlaugh:

I'm pretty sure AZ said NO parole.

i am highly disappointed that there won't be live video of the proceedings. i just found out today b/c i have been so busy lurking in the McStay threads..

does this mean that when the jury's verdict on the penalty is read that won't be live streamed either?

do you think any media groups will try to appeal JSS' ruling?

i just told my law enforcement husband that i wont be able to watch it and he laughed at me. he thinks my obsession over this trial is extreme but he just doesn't understand. he is literally laughing his butt off that im upset over this! i could scream!!!!! his reasoning is that hes never testified in anything live streamed before (and hes in court testifying about something or other at least 3 times a week) so i shouldn't be making a big deal b/c most trials aren't live streamed. i didn't really have a response other than "you just don't understand! now leave me alone!"

Defense wanted a change of venue for penalty phase because of all the publicity.

JMO, but I think that JSS thought okay, I will just take away the TV's and you will stay here. I think KN and JW liked the exposure and did not expect this.

JSS also said no twitter, no real time updates to the public regarding what is going on.

You know JA is going to hate this. She loves the limelight. I wonder if this will also include any of her after trial interviews she so likes to do.

They expect it to take about two months for the penalty phase to be completed and the jury will not be sequestered. JSS has asked for 400 potential jurors to be available for selection.

I don't mind not seeing it live. We have our people here that report, WAT and I think Beth Karas will be working with him. We will probably get better information and not have to hear all JA drivel.

Other than my opinions the information came from the AZ Republic newspaper.

Hi all!

Just an update on trying to contact Princess - Tricia will be sending another email to her - hoping she will answer it!!! :please:

Watching football!! :skip:

Seeing a fair number of tweets and FB posts suggesting that the media ban works to the advantage of the prosecution, with them expected to present a more vigorous case for the DP. Doesn't make logical sense to me, unless the County Attorney's office is sensitive to how they are portrayed in the media.

FWIW, the "Official" CMJA FB page run by Auntie is no longer there this morning. Don't know if this is temporary or not. https://www.facebook.com/jodiann.ariasfamily?fref=ts

A few weeks ago I found an interesting web page called the Capital Defense Handbook, which outlines the trial process and gives advice for both defendants and their family. It goes without saying that neither CMJA nor her family or supporters have followed this advice and are actually working against CMJA in this case/trial.

Does anyone know if the JAII site started before or after the trial began? To me it looks like it was after the trial started. Def a hodge-podge of wing nuts pieced together with a band aid to support her The group has whittled down a to handful of people now.

I keep wondering what changes in behavior, if any, CMJA will show in court after all of these months in closed custody. Been reading some stuff about what it is actually like and the kinds of effects it can have on people. So far, it doesn't seem to be dampening her arrogance or lack of remorse. Would love to hear what a psychologist thinks...if anything, it seems that she listens less to counsel/advice and is more impulsive. Who knows, the stun gun may get some use in the retrial.

Everyone please stay safe today and tonight. Severe storms for Great Lakes area. Please listen to authorities~ take cover if necssary. when tornadoes hit for anyone who doesnt know they hit fast! you have no time to do anything..gets rough, go!:loveyou:

76 reported tornado touchdowns reported so far and it is not over yet. Some lives lost, numerous injuries and areas flattened.

If you live in the watch area, please use your radio and take shelter immediately if a tornado warning is issued.

I also looked up the psychological effects of being in solitary confinement last month and found this scholarly article and bookmarked it (it's long, but enlightening). You might like to read it. :seeya:

Psychiatric Effects of Solitary Confinement† (Journal of Law & Policy [Vol. 22:325). Pgs. 325-383. Stuart Grassian*

"Individuals with more stable personalities and
greater ability to modulate their emotional expression and behavior
and individuals with stronger cognitive functioning are less severely
affected. However, all of these individuals will still experience a
degree of stupor, difficulties with thinking and concentration,
obsessional thinking, agitation, irritability, and difficulty tolerating
external stimuli (especially noxious stimuli)....

I don't think missy :jail: is feeling the effects yet: she hasn't really been in solitary that long (wait until she's there for 10-20 years- even if she gets DP or LWOP). I don't feel that she is in touch with reality and she thinks she will get out of this mess she has made of her life somehow (by some miracle, IMO). She's in La-La Land (I think she has always lived there, IMO).

I also think she will still be arrogant in the next phase of her trial, as she has been before. After all; she is right and everyone is wrong. No accepting responsibility about her actions in anything she does or has done in her life. She is soulless.
Too bad.

If it's not appropriate to sequester a jury in a case like mine, then when is it ever?

2:37 PM - 17 Nov 13 · Details

Hate to break it to missy, but she is not the be all and end all that she thinks she is. :jail: Interest in her case has already waned significantly.

CMJA, Sheriff Joe will continue to be the host for your luxury accommodations and fine food until the trial is over.
