He has mention depression and addiction numerous times before. But his wife stated he was not depressed.

Chris Cornell was not depressed or in a suicidal state the evening he died ... this according to his wife.
Sources who spoke with Chris' wife Thursday morning tell TMZ, Vicky Cornell spoke with her husband during soundcheck before he took the stage in Detroit and after Wednesday night's show. According to our sources, Vicky says Chris was NOT in any way, shape or form in a suicidal state. She doubled down and said there were no signs he was at all depressed.

Geeze I'm bummed...

Last concert in Detroit Encore song was changed that night to the cover of Led Zeppelins "In My Time of Dying" .. I believe he was clearly letting everyone know.

In my time of dying, want nobody to mourn
All I want for you to do is take my body home
Well, well, well, so I can die easy
Well, well, well, so I can die easy
Jesus, gonna make up/out siviers
Jesus, gonna make up my dyin' bed
Meet me, Jesus, meet me
Oh meet me in the middle of the air
If my wings should fail me, Lord
Oh please meet me with another pair
Well, well, well, so I can die easy
Well, well, well, so I can die easy

It's just so hard to wrap my head around. He was constantly posting pics of his kids and music and he seemed to have his sh*** together. I know people have their demons but I'm just truly struggling with this. I don't think anything nefarious at all. Just totally in shock.

I'm not sure but IF he was under the influence of drugs it makes sense to me. Drugs take you to an unbelievable high only to take to down to a depression most can't imagine.

yes I am thinking the same thing LaneGirl... 2 weeks ago I suddenly lost a friend whom I have known since I was 16 he was 51 when he passed..He Had been clean for years but struggled with demons and the demons took him over one last time.. Its very very sad and heartbreaking. He tried to hide it from all of us who knew him..

I'm so sorry for your loss, I totally understand!

I also lost a family friend in his early 20's, he got clean then went back one more time (heroin) and it was too much.

Yeah, he had struggled with depression since he was a teenager. If you listen to the lyrics of his songs spanning his career, they are pretty dark.

It's common for a person who has made the decision to end their life to feel relief, to be in a good mood and not act depressed. It's because the decision has been made; the light is at the end of the tunnel, their pain is coming to an end.

He's always seemed to have his head on straight, so this surprised me. I will miss him, his beautiful voice, and that face.

Sorry for posting twice in a row. I wanted to share one of my favorite Christmas songs. His voice is so beautiful and I love this arrangement.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I just want to help everyone who is struggling when they have so much to give. I'm seriously just so heartbroken. I told my mom he was like her Elvis. [emoji26]

Just wanted to add the people who struggle with depression their entire lives, can be amazingly good at hiding it when in they have to be up to the task, especially in certain kinds of social gatherings/situations. Sometimes pretending things are fine can be almost easier than facing the deepseeded issues or whatever because you don't want to let your kids down, your family down, your band down, your 1000's of fans down, and if you're a perfectionist (like most very successful artists etc tend to be), you feel that pressure to be the persona they expect to be and maybe that pressure became too big if he felt that he wasn't living up to what he thought he should.
I don't know. Drugs could've triggered this spiraling while he was out on tour and perhaps that why his suicidal tendencies weren't very apparent to his wife/family. RIP Chris Cornell.

I totally understand my Elvis was Layne Stalely but Chris Cornell was my second after Layne. I am bummed!

Right there with you! My husband and I can listen to Jar of Flies or Sap and take us right back to our early days of dating. Music is a huge part of our lives. Gosh, I'm still just hurting over this and just cannot believe he killed himself. Like it doesn't compute.

I wish sometimes we had a hug button instead of thank. Hugs everyone that has been hit by this or any other loss that is hurting this evening. Embracing you all with peace and love.

Other than my husband no one else shares this pane with me except you all. So thank you all for sharing songs and your thoughts and feelings. Much love to everyone. ❤️[emoji26]❤️
