HvB's superficial wounds.

Dr Daphne Anthony told the high court in Cape Town how Marli Van Breda, then 16, had fought back harder than any of her loved ones during the early hours attack in January 2015.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...-revealed.html

Oh my, look at that shocking blood loss on the bandage. I hope there was plenty in the blood bank. One could easily fall unconscious for a few hours with that!

Under cross-examination‚ Anthony conceded that the description in Van Breda’s plea statement regarding his father was in fact possible: Van Breda claimed that on hearing Rudi being attacked by an intruder‚ Martin came into the room‚ switched on the light and lunged at the attacker in a manner described by Botha as a “rugby tackle”.

http://www.timeslive.co.za/local/20...ibes-horrific-injuries-suffered-by-his-family

So Martin went in for a rugby tackle, walking over Rudi who was lying in the bed, and the attacker, who was standing between the two beds, hit Martin over the back of the head and spine, and Martin grew wings and flew in reverse over the double bed to land collapsed over the other edge.

Is that what she was agreeing was possible?

James Reade-Jahn testified on 11 May. He was 16 in 2015 and was dating Marli at the time of the family's murders.

He recognised the page with emergency numbers. The paper on the fridge was the emergency contact list for the children for security, etc. It was easily accessible because they wouldn't have it on their phones.

Family was bilingual, spoke English and Afrikaans quite often.

None of us have commented on the argument that Marli told James about which occurred a few weeks earlier and when he made the comment that he would have murdered someone! Was it the father?

That tells us that there had been prior arguments in the family. Pity James was not asked what the argument was about but that would be third party so not allowed.

I think the ex-boyfriend testified as to the nature of the argument:

11 May – from the news24 live news feed

James Reade-Jahn, Marli's ex-boyfriend testified as follows:

He was asked by police to explain about messages he had sent. 10 January to 11 January, conversation between him and Marli.

According to the message - The family had had a hard argument and the dinner table. Marli told me. She was very upset by her father, mom was very upset too.

She was present while they were having a fight. The aftermath of a family argument. Sent on 10 January.

I would describe it as a mistake, it was not the right things to say to comfort her. It wasn't directed to mean anything. I wasn't thinking.

Adv Combrink says it was a heated incident, discussing that she was overweight and she was sensitive about it. They all agreed Martin had been a bit rough on her.

Combrink says it was related to the parents feeling their relationship was too serious. Yes, Reade-Jahn says, I would say they wanted us to turn it down as we were to write exams which would determine acceptance into university.

HvB’s parents had reportedly been concerned about his health.

HvB had a brain scan at an Australian hospital last year, but the results were negative and no further tests were carried out.

A family friend also told Sunday newspaper Rapport that HvB wanted to spend last year [2014] in Canada but had to abandon these plans due to problems with his health.

However, family spokesperson Ben Rootman told Netwerk24 on Monday that rumours about HvB’s state of mental health were based on speculation and there is no way to verify this.

Drug rumours

Rootman confirmed that HvB had a brain scan in the Royal Melbourne Hospital last year but said the family had no knowledge of any rumours relating to drug use.

Netwerk24 spoke to a domestic worker at the De Zalze Estate who said she ran into HvB in the street in October last year. He allegedly shouted at her and made inappropriate innuendos, leading her to believe he was under the influence of drugs.

It seems like there's a lot of smoke wafting around on this subject, but can the State find the fire.

Botha cross-examining.

Malan only made his statement of the transporting of Henri that morning in September, eight months after the murders.

Botha asks Malan if he is aware that Henri had the right to remain silent, to not incriminate himself, and to he made aware that whatever he said can be used against him.

Malan says he does.

Botha says Henri was never notified of any of these rights that day.

Malan says that it's correct.

Refers to a photo of Henri sitting in the ambulance.

When Malan arrived, Henri was still in the ambulance.

Malan said he had been standing outside. He didn't see him sitting in the ambulance.

At one point he got out of the ambulance and accompanied Malan and his partner in a police vehicle.

He was still dressed in his boxer shorts, Botha asks. Malan said he recalled that Henri had been wearing a t-shirt.

Malan says he was wearing a boxer shorts and t-shirt.

He doesn't know where Henri got the t-shirt.

Captain Steyn also questioned Henri at the scene. Malan says he was not present at the time.

Many officers heard that Captian Steyn was speaking to Henri in the ambulance.

When they left the scene, Henri had already given his version of events to Captain Steyn.

Malan says Col Benecke asked that Henri be taken to the district surgeon to document his wounds.

Botha says Henri says he definitely wasn't wearing a t-shirt, only his boxer shorts.

Malan maintains his version, saying Henri was also not wearing any shoes.

They went to the police station to collect a J88 form.

Can't recall collecting evidence bags.

Botha says Dr Albertse testified that she had given police swabs. He says if it is what she says happened, then that is the case. He however, can't remember taking evidence bags.

On Albertse's J88, she indicates he had been wearing pajama bottoms.

Malan says he can't say that she had made a mistake, but he recalled he had been wearing a t-shirt.

What colour? Malan can't recall; it happened 2 years ago. Long or short sleeves? Definitely short sleeves, he says. Can't recall if it had any writing on it.

HvB says he was unconscious for 2 hrs 40 mins which is a serious time to be out by any standards, and yet he can remember everything afterwards, what he wore, what was said, if the police sounded mean or suspicious, quite incredible really!
