Detenido el sospechoso de asesinar al niño Mateo: un joven español de 20 años que estaba en el propio Mocejón
The Civil Guard has arrested a 20-year-old Spanish man as a suspect in the death of Mateo, the 11-year-old boy stabbed in Mocejón (Toledo). The arrest took place in Mocejón itself after a long search operation.
The alleged perpetrator of the murder was arrested at number 19 on Dalí street, just at the other end of the town from where the sports centre is located. In the early afternoon, several police cars cut off the area. After searching the house, the agents continued to search for the murder weapon in the Jarama canal.
"We knew that he had to be from here, for the simple fact that the hole through which he entered is only known to us," said a local resident after learning of the arrest, referring to the hole in the fence of the sports center through which the attacker entered.

The man arrested on Tuesday afternoon on suspicion of the murder of an 11-year-old boy in the town of Mocejón (Toledo), has confessed to the crime.
He is a 20-year-old Spanish man from the town. In fact, his father - whose residence is close to the Sports Center where the events occurred - and his grandparents live in Mocejón. Now the investigation is focused on finding out the motive for the crime, since the agents have not yet found an explanation for the events. They are now looking for the murder weapon in a canal in the town.

Among the few details known so far about the life of the suspect in the murder are that he is 20 years old and that his parents are divorced. The mother lives in Madrid and the children came and went, according to the neighbours.
"I hadn't seen him for years. He went to church with his father when he was little, a not very normal child, always looking down, quiet... but I stopped seeing them. I didn't even knew they were in the town," says a neighbour about the arrested man, who lives in a semi-detached house with his father and a younger brother.
The incident has shocked an entire town that still cannot understand what happened. "Several children who go to the sports center where the crime was committed have said that they had been seeing a guy with a stick, whistling behind them, for days coming closer to them and then going away. And it seems that it is him," says a neighbour.
Hundreds of neighbours gathered at the door of the house, which the officers continued to search throughout the afternoon after the arrest. "Those boys never go out." "He attended school with my son. The boy was not well, but to do something like this..."
