Police: Suspected serial killer, rapist on the loose in Detroit
"Detroit police are on the hunt for a suspected serial killer and rapist on the city's east side.

Chief James Craig said the killer appears to be targeting sex workers in their 50s and luring them to vacant houses, where he raped and killed them between March 19 and Wednesday.

Police believe at least three murders are connected. The first occurred around March 19, when police found a dead, naked woman in a vacant house on the 2000 block of Coventry Street. On May 24, another woman was found raped and murdered in a vacant house on the 15000 block of Linnhurst Street. And on Wednesday, police discovered another victim in an undisclosed location"

Detroit police hunt serial killer targeting sex workers
"Detroit police chief James Craig said the three homicides all happened inside vacant houses, and that all three victims were prostitutes. All were found in various stages of decomposition.

Craig added there are other connections between the cases, which he didn't want to release to the public yet.

"We believe this is a serial murderer and rapist, and we want to alert all sex workers — particularly those who work inside vacant houses — to beware," Craig said.

The most recent victim was discovered Wednesday morning in a vacant house in the 3000 block of Mack Avenue. Other victims were found May 24 and March 19; one was white and one was black, and their ages were 52 and 53."

Serial killer, rapist targeting sex workers on Detroit's east side
"According to police, the chief said they have been in the middle of the investigation which started several months ago, beginning with an incident on March 19 in the 20000 block of Coventry, where the female victim was totally disrobed.

Chief Craig said that on May 24, on the east side of Detroit, there was another death that was believed to be in connection to the March 19 incident. A woman's body was discovered in the 13000 block of Linhurst, between Gratiot and Chalmers, on the city's east side. Wednesday morning, a woman's decomposed naked body was found inside a vacant home on Mack near Mt. Elliot.

The chief said it wasn't until the murder this morning that they believe they have the "makings of a serial killer and rapist that's operating on the east side of Detroit."

Detroit's mayor is vowing to board up the city's vacant homes in the wake of a potential serial killer who may be using the empty dwellings to target victims.

After three victims were discovered, Detroit Police Chief James Craig warned this week that the suspect may be a serial killer and rapist who is singling out sex workers.

It's possible another victim could be in one of the many vacant houses on the east side, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said at a news conference on Friday.

Officers will be deployed -- beginning Friday -- to go into every open and abandoned house on the east side over the next few weeks to make sure there are no more victims, the mayor said. The houses will then be boarded up.
