A suspected telephone predator is calling women and threatening to kill them if they don’t engage in sexually explicit conversations, according to a warning put out by RCMP in B.C.

Police say the mystery caller contacts his victims by phone and often correctly identifies their name and home address, then demands they talk to dirty to him. He also claims he’s been watching his victims through hidden cameras in their homes, and that he’ll kill the victim or a family member if his demands are not met. However, police say there is no evidence of hidden cameras at any of the victims’ residences.

The individual is often described as speaking in a quiet voice. Police suspect the caller is culling information on his victims from social media.

The calls started last year and have targeted women as young as their early 20s and as old as 79.

I thought OK, it's somebody I know," she said. "The threatening tone in his voice is what startled me – that's when I knew it wasn't anybody I knew, and wasn't somebody I wanted to talk to." The mystery caller claimed to have set up cameras in the family’s home, and told McKay he had associates in her neighbourhood who were ready to attack her.

"They were going to come into my home and hurt me if I didn't listen," McKay said.

It was around this point in the conversation that McKay's daughter picked up the other line and started recording, beginning as McKay was starting to challenge the man's claims.

"If you've got cameras on me, what am I doing right now?" she asks in the recording.

"Hey, shut up and listen," the caller responds. "I don't have time for your little girl games that you want to play."

I think I heard an india accent or some other foreign accent which makes me think the calls are coming from overseas or his family recently moved to BC. Since most calls are going to same area then it could be his family recently moved there.

I also wonder if he had a cheap voice masking device he was speaking through which changed his voice somewhat. It was enough to pick up his accent though even if he was disguising his voice. A definite accent which I believe is India accent or from that region.

He sounded very immature too so I think it is just some sick young teenager probably recently moved to BC with his family.

I do hope LE is able to arrest him. Its a serious crime of threatening people with harm. And he could escalate.

Yea, the extended link below has a little bit more and you are right. He is struggling to find the right words to use which makes me guarantee English is not his primary language.

The poor lady did not quite understand what he actually said when he was about to hang up and told her he did not have time for this and said "Later". She mistakingly thought he meant something else. Which guarantees he speaks another language and was having trouble with English and picking right words.

[h=2]Gathering information on social media[/h]Police are still searching for a suspect and say it's difficult to track the caller as they believe he is using a spoofing app or website that changes his caller ID.

He appears to be gathering information about the victim through open social media sources.

Police say that while some people may not take the calls seriously, they are urging anyone who has received one of the calls to report them to the police immediately and to follow these safety tips:

• Record the caller's telephone number
• Hang up, do not engage in conversation with the caller
• Immediately report the incident to your local police
• When and wherever possible, block the number
• Use an unlisted name and number
