''BANGKOK (AP) — A gunman who attacked a child care center in Thailand and then fired from his car as he fled killed more than 30 people Thursday, including two dozen children, authorities said.

It was the deadliest mass shooting in the country's history. The assailant, identified as a former police officer, killed his wife and child before taking his own life.

Photos and videos posted online of the day care showed the floor of one room was smeared with blood and sleeping mats scattered about. Pictures of the alphabet and other colorful decorations adorned the walls.''

“The teacher who died, she had a child in her arms,” said the woman, whose name wasn't given. “I didn't think he would kill children, but he shot at the door and shot right through it.”

''Police identified the suspect as 34-year-old former police officer Panya Kamrap. Paisel told PPTV in an interview that he was fired from the force earlier this year because of drug-related offenses.

In the attack he used multiple weapons, including a handgun, a shotgun and a knife, Paisel said.''

After arriving home, he killed his wife and child and then himself, police said

''A teacher who survived the attack told Thailand's Thairath TV the gunman used to drop off his child at the nursery and had seemed polite. A motive for the attack remains unclear.
At least 22 children were among the dead in the mass killing in the town of Utthai Sawan. Some victims aged as young as two were attacked as they slept. A dozen people who were injured have been taken to Nong Bua Lamphu district hospital.''

"The shooter came in around lunchtime and shot four or five officials at the childcare centre first," a local official Jidapa Boonsom, who was working nearby, told Reuters news agency. One of them was a teacher who was eight months pregnant,
"At first people thought it was fireworks," she said, adding the gunman then forced entry to a locked room where children were sleeping.''

Police named the attacker as Panya Kamrab, a local man who had been a police lieutenant colonel before he was dismissed last year for drug use. He is understood to have appeared in court on Thursday on charges related to the use and possible sale of methamphetamine. The verdict was scheduled to be delivered on Friday.

Armed with a shotgun, a pistol and a knife, he stormed the nursery at about 12:30 local time (05:30 GMT).

I would not be surprised if Panya Khamrap is an injustice collector, wound collector, or grudge hoarder. An all too common characteristic of monsters like seen at Columbine, Izhevsk, Dunblane, Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook, Parkland, Uvalde, Utoya, Isla Vista, Las Vegas, Sutherland Springs, Oklahoma City Bombing, and 9/11.

There are plenty of non-mass killers and serial killers who are injustice collectors. Jodi Arias, Betty Broderick, Lori Drew, Casey Anthony, Pamela Smart, Yoselyn Ortega, Vester Flanagan, Christy Sheats, Dora Cisneros, and David Berkowitz come to mind.

''UTHAI SAWAN, Thailand (AP) — Relatives wailed and collapsed in grief before the small coffins of children Friday after a fired police officer stormed a rural Thai day care center at naptime and massacred dozens of people.''

''Som-Mai Pitfai collapsed when she saw the body of her 3-year-old niece.
“When I looked, I saw she had been slashed in the face with a knife,“ the 58-year-old said, holding back tears.''

''Panya’s mother told Thai media in interviews that there was tension between him and his wife. The mother also told digital television 3Plus News that her son owed 300,000 baht ($7,990 ) for his car loan and 140,000 baht ($3,730) in additional personal debt, which was another possible cause of stress.

The police chief also said the initial autopsy performed on Panya’s body failed to detect any dangerous drugs, which would mean that he had not taken any in the preceding 72 hours.''

Thai nursery attack: The story of the three-year-old survivor

"The class of 11 children, all around three years old, had earlier been busy drawing and writing. At around 10:00 local time, teachers sent photo updates to all the parents of smiling, happy children.

Two hours later, at nap time, former police officer Panya Kamrab stormed the building. Witnesses said he first shot staff, including a teacher who was eight months pregnant, before forcing his way into each of the three kindergarten classrooms.

He murdered all of Emmy's friends as they slept."

Out of all the children in the building, she was the only survivor. Usually there would be up to 90 children in the building, but because of bad weather and a bus breaking down, there were only 24 (from this article). 23 children were killed. I can't imagine how poor Emmy will feel about that as she grows up. Survivor guilt is a given. I doubt the killer meant to leave her alive. He probably just missed her by accident.

I read the links. There is the unwieldy grief in Uthai Sawan, which is unimaginable.

Panya Khamrap is clearly an injustice collector. He has the characteristic of one. He likely would be perpetually aggrieved his whole life.

Panya Kamrab, the former police officer who committed mass murder at a child care centre in Thailand’s Nong Bua Lam Phu province on Thursday, had an unhappy childhood, with his parents separating, and was alleged to have resorted to drug abuse while studying at high school, according to an informed police source.

He was not talkative, but was prone to occasional outbursts of violence.

He did, however, do well in his education and managed to enrol at the police academy for non-commissioned officers and passed the drug test. While in the police service, he enrolled at Ramkhamhaeng University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (Second Grade Honour).
