The 911 Call

For me the most chilling (and damning) line in the 911 tape comes near the end. I don't have the exact quote before me, but Darlie briefly breaks out of her hysteria and yells at Darin: "someone came in here and did this intentionally, Darin!"

What strikes me is her tone of voice. It reminds me of my teenage daughter who may be "crying" about something, but then her brother makes her mad or teases her and she goes off on him with the same tone. It's not a grief stricken tone, but a childish, angry, irritated tone.

Doesn't make sense if your two boys lie butchered before you and you had yourself been assaulted. Sounds more like someone is questioning you're story and your ticked that they don't believe you

I agree Jim. It's the one thing that made me doubt her and her story...that line. She goes from hysterics to anger in nanoseconds. It is chilling isnt' it...I played that call again and again after that and all I hear is guilt all over it.

It's transcribed as ...(unintelligible) thought he was dead ...oh my God... and that's what I hear. If that's what she said, that really freaks me out because she was probably talking about Damon. That fits my theory that Damon started crawling about then. I see the "oh my God" as like "I can't believe it, I stabbed you. How could you be...." or something like that.
I'm not being a smart butt, but why would it be important for her to tell Darin Devon was already dead? It was obvious he was. She knew it, he knew it. The whole CPR thing was for show. :twocents:

I hear "Devon's seven years old and he's dead" but I hear Darlie saying this at 35:20 not Darin.

I hear Darin at 30:12 telling Darlie "Devon's dead"

The part that got to me was something that sounds like she is asking "are they still laying there" Sorry, don't know the line number. Anyhow, why in the world would she be concerned about them STILL laying there? And, then as some of you have mentioned, there is that point where her voice dramatically changes and sounds like she is warning Darin or maybe trying to convince him that someone else was responsible. Once I heard that tone of voice, I had a hard time believing she was hysterical.

It is so much better to listen to the recording versus only reading the transcript of the call. The tone of the voice spoke volumes to me.

I'm working on the 911 tape a little bit at a time and will eventually post my transcription along with the others transcriptions that everybody on here has done.

But, had to bring this up. At 35.20 seconds where it has been transcribed as "thought he was dead", I clearly hear:

"Oh, Devon is already dead"

when it is slowed down a little bit, 40% tempo only.

Anyway, don't know if this has been discussed before or not. Seems pretty important. Darin telling Darlie that Devon is dead?

At the 35.20 I hear "he is?! Oh my God Devon is already dead!"

We must get together and compare our notes when we have finished!

Yes, this particular spot has been discussed many times. I think "blanket" has been discussed before too. But I think "make it" was probably the most common one everyone heard. Darin has been known to slur a lot before (silly string interview is horrible), I think I finally decided he said something like, they're not going to make it, get in her. Try searching previous posting.

Yes, I still eventually plan on posting and comparing everybody's transcriptions; it just very time consuming.

I've been using the audio program audacity. It's free and takes a little bit of time to use. It let's you slow down, change pitch, and play loops. Lots of people just use their mp3 player or CD player.

PM me if your interested in sharing your transcription.

Also, I think the transcriptions are different at jfd and fdr websites.

Here's my version of the 911 call. Any feedback is appreciated. It differs from the version posted on justicefordarlie in that I do not hear a dog barking at any time, and some of what Darin says is able to be transcribed, IMO. I'm taking a break from listening to it for a while....how probable is it that Darin caught her in the act? (that's a rhetorical question - I don't expect an answer). Darin can be heard clearly 24 seconds into the call - I think he was already downstairs before she dialed the phone...

I have tried to re-create that sound I hear after she says "Damon, Damon!" it occurs only once....and this is going to sound so macabre - but that sound reminds me of the shower scene in Psycho when Janet Leigh is being stabbed - so I stabbed a beef brisket with my kitchen butcher knife - it makes a sound, but not a match; so then I tried it on a whole raw chicken in the breast - a better match but not the same sound; but, the best re-creation I get is when I stabbed a whole watermelon, the sound made as the knife goes in is almost exact. Now, I don't want to think that she would have stabbed Damon while on the phone to 911 - but the way her voice changes just as she says the second "Damon!" it's such an angry/annoyed tone, like she can't believe he's still alive...and then that sound...I don't know, it's a good thing my vacation is almost over! I need to go back to work! :banghead:

Note to self...keep knives away from sharkeyes! Honestly, you did a great job on the transcription. I never followed the case much, bc I always felt she was guilty. This tape confirms (for me anyway) what I had suspected.

Very creepy, her tone of voice gets me right when she says Damon, Damon, Damon, it's almost as if she is hissing something angrily at Darin...something she doesn't want anyone to hear. Then she says "Damon, I don't want you to die"
